Commercial Description:
Inspired by local artist & roaster Michael Allen's eccentricly-named blend of coffee beans, Midnight Sun's brewers designed a beer recipe and infusion process that perfectly captures the alluring aroma, satisfying flavor and curious legend of Allen's Arctic Rhino Coffee. Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter combines two quintessential Pacific Northwest favorites: coffee and ale. The result is wonderfully romantic and robust--a duel-fueled porter that melds charismatic dark malt with freshly roasted coffee beans. The (un)rest is up to you.

Pours a dense brown hue with a root beer float type of head that sustains. Aroma is fairly subtle, but coffee grounds dominate. Initial flavor is coffee and roast malts that transition to dark chocolate and finishes slightly bitter. Texture is watery with mild carbonation. Fairly straight-forward coffee porter with limited depth and flavor, nothing too exciting here.

Bottle from liquidsolutions. Unfortunately, I think it was a bad one. Either that, or this beer is massively over-esteemed. First hit on the nose for me was the smell of new plastic. Yep, new plastic. Very distinct and very overpowering. Upon further sniffing, I could detect what seemed to be some really lovely bitter chocolate and roasty coffee notes as well as some lactic creaminess. Some nutty hints, too. Just could not get over the plastic. Thin palate and nice-looking dark pour with one-finger dark tan bubbly head. Disappointing.

Draft at brewery, tan head, black color, strong coffee aroma. Nice roasty coffee flavor. As others indicated a little thin for me, but a nice drinkable beer.

Black with a tan head. Aromas of coffee and roasted malts. Medium body. Good coffee chocolate flavors with a blackened malt bitterness. This beer tasted a little light struck but was ok overall.

Pours dark with tannish head. Slight aroma with coffee barely noticable. Palate is very light for a porter and slight coffee tatse lingers in the aftertaste. Very smooth, goes down too easy, pretty weak beer actually. Tastes somewhat watered down. Overall I was disappointed I thought this beer would be more in your face and it turned out to be just the opposite

On tap. Dark brown with tan head. Smells of coffee, chocolate, and roasted grains. Very smooth taste with a mild coffee flavor. I usually only drink "beer flavored beer" with no adjuncts, but this one is an exception. Well done.

Black as coal with a medium tan head. Strong cofffe aroma with a roasty character (just like walking into a coffee house on a chilly fall morning. Taste is also of coffee. Body is slightly thin.

On tap at the brewery July 11. I truly appreciated this although I am not a coffee drinker. Nice and roasty with chocolate. Very easy to drink, I can see how someone working 3rd shift might want one of these after work for breakfast!
