Commercial Description:
Inspired by local artist & roaster Michael Allen's eccentricly-named blend of coffee beans, Midnight Sun's brewers designed a beer recipe and infusion process that perfectly captures the alluring aroma, satisfying flavor and curious legend of Allen's Arctic Rhino Coffee. Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter combines two quintessential Pacific Northwest favorites: coffee and ale. The result is wonderfully romantic and robust--a duel-fueled porter that melds charismatic dark malt with freshly roasted coffee beans. The (un)rest is up to you.

Pours a dark black color with light ruby edges and a light beige head. Smell is very strongly of coffee, and almost a bit like "cheap" coffee. I liked it more until it was commented that it smelled like a retirement home. Hmm... Taste is strong, cheap quality coffee, with a dark roasty, yet slightly watered down malt. Not bad, but not the most impressive coffee beer either.

Aroma of coffee, roasted, and somewhat burnt malts. Pours a dark brown with a thin head. Tastes of roasted coffee with a very light sweetness as well. Smooth, albeit a little thin. Medium carbonation. Easy going, well done.

Pours a muddled brown in color with a nice inch or more of head. Smell is highly roasted malts and some coffee. Taste is more coffee and it’s a subdued coffee, not a huge, burnt or roasty type. Works well with the beer. A little thinner on the mouthfeel than I’d like. This is my first Midnight Sun beer and I guess I had higher expectations than this.

I like the label on this bottle but I was expecting a bigger beast within. Pours a deep brown with a huge head. I had to cool the head down multiple times to continue the pour. Muted smell of raisins and rum. Taste leans more to the chocolate side than the coffee. Mouthfeel was a bit thin and overall this lacked a real staying power with me. I enjoyed the bottle but not so sure I will be reaching out for this rhino again anytime soon,

Bottle, at BA Throwdown #2. Pours a dark black pour. Very creamy head and lacing. Roasted notes in the nose, lettuce, wheat and dry coffee grounds, peanuts. Flavors of warming roasted malt, nice toasted biscuit, and some coffee. Tasty, interesting finish, drinkable but not a flagship representation of the style.

Pours black with brownish head. Aroma is filled with roastiness and coffee malts. Taste dry coffee, light floral hops and little bitterness. Nice coffee presence, although a little too weak and dry.

Deep mocha flavor, with a twang of leafy hops. Thin body overall. Coffee flavor is fairly subdued, I got more chocolate really. I suspect the beans were picked a day late... but actually pretty tasty.

Pours a dense brown hue with a root beer float type of head that sustains. Aroma is fairly subtle, but coffee grounds dominate. Initial flavor is coffee and roast malts that transition to dark chocolate and finishes slightly bitter. Texture is watery with mild carbonation. Fairly straight-forward coffee porter with limited depth and flavor, nothing too exciting here.
