| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 25, 2009 This is a menacing brew. Pours unbelievably opaque black (couldn’t even see through the stream as it was pouring), with - no joke - the darkest head I’ve ever seen on a beer. A thin layer of dark, reddish brown foam slowly forms, then dissipates to a film. Just gorgeous. Molasses, dark chocolate and port wine on the nose. Those three notes are replicated up front in the flavor, which then moves into roastier notes of coffee and smoked meats, backed by just a bit of whiskey. Huge, huge mouthfeel. This stuff is motor oil. Just a bit hot, but they’ve seriously got something going here - a sipping brew, for sure - and just delicious. I’m heading to find more tomorrow - surely one of the new favorites.

Pours opaque black with a thin tan head. Rich intense chocolate malts with vanilla and molasses flavors with hints of tobacco, very rich but not as intense as the nose lets on. Excellent beer! Pours a dark brown with a medium head and dark fruit aromas that have a sort of molasses undercurrent. Flavor is a nice enough mix of the above with a little bit of dark chocolate and leather. That said, I wish there were a little more of a malt presence across the palate. mar (1972), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Bottle (thanks to Angeloregon for sharing)... Poured black with a thin -- almost little-to-none -- brown head. Aroma of vanilla and roasted, toasted grains and almost as extreme as a little bit of cheese and greasy meat. Smooth palate, lightly carbonated that hugged my tongue and allowed for easy quaffing. Oaky, vanilla and subtly smoked with that "lavish tobacco" (as described on the bottle) base coming through. Insanely boozy with a sweet chocolate and creme brulee-like finish. fidel (1015), Livermore, California, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 3, 2009 Bottle from bvc that was a nice "celebrator glass" in an Eastern Colorado pheasant field. Deep dark woodiness in the nose, also bourbon and plums, just a light bitterness. Taste is earthy bittersweet molasses to start, with a roasted meat and black pepper jerky thing (in a good way) as it warms a bit. Great toasty bitterness to finish and scary drinkable for nearly 13% abv. Thanks, Brandon. Really nice one.
