HOPS GALORE! Palate... MAN!!! 100 IBU’s?! Is that all?!! Not 200?!!! Geez this is a hop fest in a bottle! It’s like Midnight Sun’s Gluttony and the Arctic Devil mixed together! Lots o’ malt to back up the hops, hops, hops! Great mouthfeel and a helluva long, resinous finish! WOOHOO!!! corby112 (752), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours a deep dark ruby red that’s almost a black cherry soda color with some lighter colored golden ruby hues when held to a light source and a creamy, frothy light yellowish beige head with excellent retention. The head only slowly fading into a lasting cap that leaves chunky rings of soapy lacing in it’s wake.
Pretty hoppy aroma for the style with some sweet citrus notes along with a biscuit malt backbone with hints of rye, caramel and toast. Slightly piny with some grapefruit and citrus peel. Slight alcohol presence but it’s well masked by the other aromas.
Extremely hop forward even for a west coast style American barleywine. Chewy resinous mouthfeel with a lot of bitter earthy hops. Dry and piny with a big leathery malt backbone with hints of biscuit, caramel and roasted nut. The flavor is very must and earthy with a bit of sweet citrus from the agressive hopping. Hints of grapefruit and citrus peel. There are some big flavors in this beer but they are perfectly balanced. There is a slight alcohol warmth in the finish but the ABV is very well masked, especially considering it clocks in at 11.9%. This beer is dangerously drinkable and feels much more like a really strong malty DIPA than anything else. I would love to have another bottle of this for aging but I fear that it would lose all of it’s hoppy greatness and be a completely different animal. Highly recommended if you can get it. daknole (2976), Plantation, Florida, USA

Springing from the glass right into your nose and all over your tongue. Spicy, floral, citrus...hops and more hops. And a nice little malt bill to offer some balance and sweetness. Well done. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 6, 2009 A beautiful American barleywine. A reddish copper with a thin thight off white head. The aroma is a nice blend of strong NW hops and sweet caramel malts. The taste of hops hits hard with a good malt base. The mouthfeel is resiny. A long hop finish that has a slight warming once it has gone down. Another A+ Crew Brew! Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 5, 2009 I’ve been looking forward to trying this since I first heard about it from tpd975. Thanks for sharing this yummy beast. It poured clear copper with amber core and thin tan head. The aroma has a smooth full pine, grapefruit and resiny bitter hoppy goodness with a sense of a sweet malty base. The taste is full on hoppy pine bitterness then moving into resiny hop notes. By midway a modest level of thick sweet maltiness comes to the surface to create a brief safe haven from the persistent pestilent hops. Very tasty hop heavy barleywine. I never would have guessed this to be a barley wine the nose and flavor are quite DIPAish. Aroma is big citrus hops and some caramel. Medium bodied with a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is dominated by the hops which impart lots of grassy, piney, citrus notes. As it warms there is more of a sweet caramel malt presence which balances it out slightly. Very good but I’d call it a DIPA. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA
