Commercial Description:
When the loveable "hopheads" at Humpy's Great Alaskan Alehouse requested a winter version of alehouse favorite Sockeye Red IPA, our brewers instinctively spawned CoHoHo Imperial IPA. CoHoHo begins with generous measures of pale two-row and specialty malts along with spirit-boosters like maple syrup, brown sugar and honey. Hefty doses of Cascade, Centennial and Simcoe hops beautifully balance that outrageous malt bill and heighten the festive character of this exuberant beer. Whatever the celebration, make merry with CoHoHo Imperial IPA.

Growler filled at the brewery. Pours a nice amber with an off-white head. Great aroma of floral hops. Flavor of caramel malts, pine, and floral hops. Very nice finish.

Bottle shared so kindly with MrBunn. Pours a darkish red and smells like caramel and pine happiness. The fruitiness of it all is fantastic. One wonderful DIPA.

Bottle with thanks to scruzzz. Pours fairly dark... Reddish copper with a sudsy head and aromas of double IPA goodness. Caramel and light brown sugar, resin and citrus. Flavor is like a caramel coated Christmas tree. Yum!

Pours light brown with thick tan head and lots of lacing. Taste is sweet with hop balance. This bottle was unfortunately not fresh.

Medium brown pour from 22oz bottle. The orgins of an IPA really shine thru. Very little is hidden with the added carmel sweetness and malts. Still at heart a grapefruity IPA.

22oz bomber courtesy of tastybeer.

Pours a deep orangish brown with a two-finger, thick, rocky, tan head that has excellent retention and thick wads of sheety lacing. Aroma is sweet, lots of blueberry pie, Bosc pears, brown sugar. Taste is big berry sweetness, some syrupy sweetness, and huge hop balancing. Big warming presence immediately from the 8%. Oily mouthfeel. Drying finish. Actually quite refreshing, Easy to drink, fruity, and medium-bodied. Yum. This would kick-ass were it fresh, but alas.

The Dan Journal #289. Tasted 8/21/09. 22oz bomber. Purchased Winter ’07. Thanks Keir. Filtered with a dark amber hue. Lacing beige head. Aromas of earthy hops and deep malts. Full bodied with good malts. Bitter hops with a mild citrus acidity. Mild palate. Need to check it out fresh.

Bomber from Liquid Solutions, shared with my girlfriend and roommate after a long day of moving stuff around. I assume it must be from last winter. Pours a dark reddish-amber color with a large beige head and absolutely insane lacing. I mean clumps of foam cling to the side of the glass, and distinct rings can be seen well after the beer is gone. Aroma is brown sugar, honey, spices, citrusy and resinous hops. Flavor is brown sugar, caramel, maple syrup, honey, holiday spices, juniper, and grapefruity, resinous hops in just the right amount, not too intense. This winter warmer/DIPA combo is an interesting one, and this attempt at it is well-executed. Palate is smooth and just a tiny bit syrupy, with soft carbonation. Overall a really well-done beer from Midnight Sun.

22oz - Aroma of brown sugar, caramel and chewy resinous hops. Flavor is sweet and tart, brown sugar and honey with the hoppy finish. Palate is chewy. Very tasty but not as tart and hoppy as I’d expect, probably has some age on it.
