Aug 26, 2008 A wonderful bonus bottle from Jabic...thanks! Black in color with very slight island lacing. The nose was dominated by aromas of dark chocolate, crème and vanilla. In the mouth threre was actually quite a bit of carbonation making this come off as fresh and almost "light". The flavor has some bitter coffee grounds with just some balancing chocolate richness. This was a well stored bottle that drinks quite nice.

Jul 10, 2008 Bottle from CaptainCougar. Pour was dark brown-black, some reddish colored edges, ok head, but not overwhelming for the style. Aroma of spices, dark fruits, light chocolate and roast. Flavor is a dry vinous-fruity base over chocolate, bready-yeast, brown-sugar and licorice even. An interesting brew that was definitely enjoyable at cellar temps vs. 40F fridge temps. The mouthfeel was dry, spicey-zing, a tad hot. Nice, not great, enjoyable, nonetheless. Thanks, Tom, for the bottle!

Jun 8, 2008 Bomber. Pours a nice deep dark woody brown with some ruby highlights, and a light tannish head and some lace. Aroma is nutty with some chocoalte, good earthy herbal and phenolic aromas with some light butterscotch blending wiht the nuts and toasted bread. Good bready doughy flavor with some light dirt, baked bready maltiness, some hints of rum and high alcohol as it warms, light nutty chocolate and more burnt toast with a phenolic and light hoppy bitterness in the end.

Apr 7, 2008 Poured a very deep brown color with a small tan head. The aroma was smoky, roasty and chocolatey. there were some light yeasty and citrus notes. The flavor was roasty and light with some citrus notes. It seems to have wheat in it. Some dark chocolate notes in the flavor as well. Light to medium body.

Mar 30, 2008 22 oz bomber shared at Cornboys Barleywine blind. Pours an average density solid black with a thin beige foamy head. Interesting aroma with notes of yeast, roastiness, coffee, dark fruit and milk. Thin bodied with light carbonation. Doughy flavor with notes of coffee, chocolate, and vinegar. This really isn’t my favorite style although I have tried a few. I guess it’s alright if you like this sort of thing.
