Commercial Description:
Conspiracy is a collaboration brew between Midnight Sun Brewing and Pelican Pub & Brewery. During a trip to Alaska for the Great Alaskan Beer & Barley Wine Fest, Ben Love of Pelican conspired with Gabe Fletcher and Ben Johnson of Midnight Sun to brew a Belgian-Style Black Beer. Conspiracy features a rich, spicy aroma with hints of dark fruit, raisin, roast and caramel. A toasted and slightly roasty flavor lead into caramel and a super smooth finish. Debittered black malt was used to get the jet-black color and tan head without adding significant roast flavor. The brewers also added Belgian candi sugar and Mexican Piloncillo sugar (a maple-sugar-like brown sugar) to increase fermentability and depth of flavor. Conspiracy comes in at 8.5 percent ABV and 25 IBUs

Bottle, 22oz. A dark, dark brown beer topped by a finger-thick, creamy beige head. Some dried fruits in the aroma, with caramel and spicyness and some alcohol. The flavor is sweet and spiced, with dried fruits and some bitterness and a hint of something reminiscent of dms but probably being something alse. Full-bodied, dryish and smoothly carbonated. Sweet finish with dried fruits. A nice beer blending flavors in a lovely way. 090724

Bomber that I’ve cellared for a year. Colour... ebony with no head (unless swirled). Nose... sweetened black coffee and brown sugar. Palate.. plenty of carbonation, coffee, bitter sweet chocolate, Mapleine, slightly metallic at first, but that faded after about ten minutes, violets, cocoa mass and a very looooong finish. Wish I could find more!

Bottled. A black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has strong notes of soy sauce, roasted malt, alcohol, and wood. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt, wood, soy sauce, herbs, and some coffee, leading to a very bitter, roasted, and woody finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Skyview. Pours black with a tint of red and a light brown head. Aroma of burned malt and salty licorice. Solid body, sweet dark malts, dried fruits - raisins in particular - coffee and licorice and a little tar perhaps. Has a vague malty bitterness. 220909
