Commercial Description:
Conspiracy is a collaboration brew between Midnight Sun Brewing and Pelican Pub & Brewery. During a trip to Alaska for the Great Alaskan Beer & Barley Wine Fest, Ben Love of Pelican conspired with Gabe Fletcher and Ben Johnson of Midnight Sun to brew a Belgian-Style Black Beer. Conspiracy features a rich, spicy aroma with hints of dark fruit, raisin, roast and caramel. A toasted and slightly roasty flavor lead into caramel and a super smooth finish. Debittered black malt was used to get the jet-black color and tan head without adding significant roast flavor. The brewers also added Belgian candi sugar and Mexican Piloncillo sugar (a maple-sugar-like brown sugar) to increase fermentability and depth of flavor. Conspiracy comes in at 8.5 percent ABV and 25 IBUs

Bomber. Pours a nice deep dark woody brown with some ruby highlights, and a light tannish head and some lace. Aroma is nutty with some chocoalte, good earthy herbal and phenolic aromas with some light butterscotch blending wiht the nuts and toasted bread. Good bready doughy flavor with some light dirt, baked bready maltiness, some hints of rum and high alcohol as it warms, light nutty chocolate and more burnt toast with a phenolic and light hoppy bitterness in the end.

Poured a very deep brown color with a small tan head. The aroma was smoky, roasty and chocolatey. there were some light yeasty and citrus notes. The flavor was roasty and light with some citrus notes. It seems to have wheat in it. Some dark chocolate notes in the flavor as well. Light to medium body.

22 oz bomber shared at Cornboys Barleywine blind. Pours an average density solid black with a thin beige foamy head. Interesting aroma with notes of yeast, roastiness, coffee, dark fruit and milk. Thin bodied with light carbonation. Doughy flavor with notes of coffee, chocolate, and vinegar. This really isn’t my favorite style although I have tried a few. I guess it’s alright if you like this sort of thing.

22oz Bomber via trade, with someone can’t recall who, price tag said Pastaworks. Pours black with a light brown head. Looks like an impy stout. The nose is very spicy and quire complex. Taste is sweet, spicy, herbal, and tart, a pretty unique beer if you ask me, from apperance, taste and the whole big mess of flavors. Interesting to say the least.

Bottled. thanks to omhper! opaque black with a low pale brown head. Big sharp yeasty and a big fruity aroma of cherries, all-spice, wood, tart raspberries and gunpowder. Full, dryish and spicy flavour of nuts, fudge, salt, nuts cocoa and alcohol. Long clean finish of tart chocolate, pepper, mild licorice, and figs.

Bottled. Really black with creamy beige head. Roasty almondy nose. Medium boided and medium sweet with clean mouthfeel. Notes of earth, coffee, chocolate and licorice. Evident Belgian style yeast character. Complex flavuor profile, but the moutfheel is perhaps a tad hard.

22 oz. bottle, shared by DarkElf - thanks! Pours a dark brown-black, opaque with a large brownish head. Dark roasty malts and lots of fruity aromas, burnt caramel, figs and floral notes, apple skin. Sweet and fruity flavors, dominated by bready yeastiness, prune juice a little astringent bitterness and floral and herby notes. Medium to full body and creamy carbonation.
