Commercial Description:
Conspiracy is a collaboration brew between Midnight Sun Brewing and Pelican Pub & Brewery. During a trip to Alaska for the Great Alaskan Beer & Barley Wine Fest, Ben Love of Pelican conspired with Gabe Fletcher and Ben Johnson of Midnight Sun to brew a Belgian-Style Black Beer. Conspiracy features a rich, spicy aroma with hints of dark fruit, raisin, roast and caramel. A toasted and slightly roasty flavor lead into caramel and a super smooth finish. Debittered black malt was used to get the jet-black color and tan head without adding significant roast flavor. The brewers also added Belgian candi sugar and Mexican Piloncillo sugar (a maple-sugar-like brown sugar) to increase fermentability and depth of flavor. Conspiracy comes in at 8.5 percent ABV and 25 IBUs

Bottle from JJPM. Aroma isn’t great... slightly herbal, roasty, and, kind of icy, really. Very fizzy head on the pour. Taste is much better, with roastiness up front, mild sugars, ash, and a caramelly finish. A touch of belgian yeast, though not much. Very drinkable, especially warm. Enjoyable.

Bottle courtesy of TomDecapolis!! Pours really dark brown almost black with a medium sized tan colored head. Aroma is nice, some chocolate, raisins, dried fruits, yeast. Flavor is chocolate, yeast, raisin, alcohol, caramel, roasted malts. Palate is medium to full bodied, medium carbonation, finishes somewhat sweet and a little warm. A really nice brew all around.

thanks to blake for sharing. dark pour, small tan head, not much lace. Wierd aroma alcohols bread dough, and some hard to place soapy characters. Hints of bubble gum. Palate is avg. Flvor has lots of bubble gum and that wierd soapiness. Black patent dominates some breads are the only belgian character showing through. Pretty blah.

Pours to a black body with a tiny bubbled dense creamy brown head. The aroma is like a raisin-bubblegum and dish soap. The flavor is black malt, creamy, and earthy, and soapy malts. Something doesn’t jive. The palate is average and earthy. I’m not a fan.

Bottle thanks to Blake! Poured a very deep brown, almost black with a short cap of deeper brown head. Aroma picked up a hefty dose of spiced yeasty goodness.. some choclate and caramel.. rather odd almost cardboard-ey presence with a touch of lemon and increasing detergent as it warmed. Flavor also had a solid basis in the yeast with some chocolate and toasty caramel maltage.. rather warm from the alcohol presence and dusty detergent toward the back... picked up some brown sugar too. About medium-bodied on the palate with decent carbonation.. moderate bitterness too with a warm, toasty finish. OK, but not much better.

Bottle... O-Town Throwdown Part Deux... Pours a dark, mostly clear, orange, but sits practically black in the glass with a small, creamy, khaki head. Notes of chocolate, banana, coffee and tobacco dominate the aroma. The flavor is tangy and sweet with hunks of dark chocolate and observations of bitter charcoal, light spice and mild acidity. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes tangy and burnt with the relatively high ABV well-disguised. Dangerously easy-drinking! Thanks to kp for driving all the way to O-Town to share this brew!

22. Pours grainy-looking opaque black with a towering, comically massive swiss-cheese tan head that surges and swirls like an H.R. Giger prop. Minimal lace. Lots of visible carb clinging to the glass. Green apple, dust, CO2, and cola notes on the nose. Very softly fizzy attack, medium body, moderately assertive flavors of cola, green apples, caramel, and wet leaves. Clingy, very lightly bitter nutty finish. This is an interesting and well-made beer.

Thanks to jasonmech77 for sharing this... Appears a dark amber with a light tan head that slowly fades out. Spotty lacing is left around the glass. Smell is plummy, with notes of cocoa, nuts, doughy yeast, and mild coffee if you dig deep. Taste is of the mentioned aromas with nuttiness and yeast standing out with sweet fruit up front leading to a gentle, roasted espresso-like, bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, full of caramel, and semi-dry on the swallow.
