Commercial Description:
Conspiracy is a collaboration brew between Midnight Sun Brewing and Pelican Pub & Brewery. During a trip to Alaska for the Great Alaskan Beer & Barley Wine Fest, Ben Love of Pelican conspired with Gabe Fletcher and Ben Johnson of Midnight Sun to brew a Belgian-Style Black Beer. Conspiracy features a rich, spicy aroma with hints of dark fruit, raisin, roast and caramel. A toasted and slightly roasty flavor lead into caramel and a super smooth finish. Debittered black malt was used to get the jet-black color and tan head without adding significant roast flavor. The brewers also added Belgian candi sugar and Mexican Piloncillo sugar (a maple-sugar-like brown sugar) to increase fermentability and depth of flavor. Conspiracy comes in at 8.5 percent ABV and 25 IBUs

Poured an opaque brown color with a medium size,d tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of plums, caramel malts, citrus fruits, chocolate, allspice, coriander, and a bit of banana as well. Taste of more chocolate, roasted malts, sweet figs, banana bread, citrus, candy sugar, nutmeg, and light alcohol as well.

Bottled. thanks to omhper! opaque black with a low pale brown head. Big sharp yeasty and a big fruity aroma of cherries, all-spice, wood, tart raspberries and gunpowder. Full, dryish and spicy flavour of nuts, fudge, salt, nuts cocoa and alcohol. Long clean finish of tart chocolate, pepper, mild licorice, and figs.

Pours a viscous dark mahogany with a frothy dark tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel malt and earthy bready Belgian yeast with a touch of light fruitiness and cherries. Body starts fairly full, dense and dark caramely sweet with good semi-tart balance and a touch of dark raisins. Thick, sweet, and mildly earthy finish has nice authenticity and complexity. A good dark Belgian strong ale.

Shared with BBB63. Black beer out of the bottle with a thick foamy biege head. Light cereal nose with some fruit and a hint of roasted grain. Light mouthfeel, with flavors of brown sugar, an almost blueberry fruitiness, and some roast grains. Very nice sipping beer. I hope I can get some more.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown color with an average light brown head that diminished slowly and produced good lacing. Good roasted, caramel, dark fruit and yeast aroma. Medium body with a smooth. Medium to heavy complex sweet dark fruit flavor with a medium to heavy complex sweet finish. This is a standout brew.

Pours a dark brown. Aroma is strong, strange, and tough to decipher. Rather meaty, with some licorice, prunes and a spice presence. Odd, but balanced. Tastes of chocolate, spiciness (yeast? cloves?), light roast coffee. Finishes like a yeastier, fruitier/spicier robust porter would. Balanced, full, and interesting enough to keep me wondering. When the glass was done, I still didn’t quite know what the hell I just drank. I’d say that’s something worth seeking out.
