BEER LINE: "The Way Down"
2009 Crew Brew Series: Heading into 2009, the NINE of us will each designnamebrew a beer to be released in 2009. We are all very excited about this series. It’s a great way to “freeze” this time and space – right before we jump into the new place and add new folks. These NINE beers will be fabulously eclectic and delicious.

Creator of This Beer: Kourtney, aka K-Dogg...aka K-Tron, is our hotdog boardercyclistbrewer. K-Dogg works and plays harder than most...and he’s got the scars to prove it. His beer was inspired by the Belgian beers he enjoys after an incredible day on one of his boards or bikes or in the brewhouse. Created as a tribute to the monk-ethic that produces beautiful beer through spiritual dedication to centuries-old standards, DESCENT celebrates "the way down".

22oz bottle courtesy of savnac poured into a snifter. Pours a deep, clear copper with a big creamy beige head that leaves very good lacing on its way down to a solid cap fed by tons of bubbles from the bottom. The aroma is fairly subdued with a deep caramel malt sweetness that supports the other aromas. There is also plenty of spiciness in the nose from yeast and, presumably, the grains of paradise. Dark fruits start to come through as it warms, especially raisins. The taste is a bigger version of the aroma. It’s got tons of caramel malts in the backbone with lots of spiciness to balance the sweetness, especially in the finish. The fruit is present in the middle, a sweet booze-soaked raisin and plum taste. Plenty of yeast and some fruity esters round things out. The mouthfeel is typical MSBC with strong carbonation and on the fuller side of medium in the body. This is not one of my favorites from MSBC, but it’s still a great Belgian beer and I really like what they did with the spices which balance the dark fruitiness very well. Very tasty.

Poured a clear deep chestnut color with a medium sized off-white head. The aroma malty sweet and fruity with a light smoke in it. Sweet fruit flavor with light fig on the finish. Some yeasty notes. Tasty. Medium bodied.

Bottle. Pours an orange brune body with an off white head. Sweet abbey brown with a nice raisin like sweetness, rum and cane sugars. Nice brew.

Shared by Goldtwins. Sweet raisonlike flavor is present. heavy belgian yeast presence. Maybe needs to mellow out a bit.

Thanks again to "AKfaust" for this treat! Colour... cloudy copper. Nose... sweet with dried stone fruits. Palate... definetly Abbey! Slightly cloying, more stone fruit as well as dark and golden raisins. Long, sweet coating finish!

A good beer. 22oz from the brewery. Dark amber with red hues around the edges. A very sweet smelling ale. It is light to medium bodied with a slight creamy feel. Starts sweet, in the middle it has a spice, and finishes sweet. It has a little bit of a warming effect, it is nice in the cold weather.

On tap @ Cafe Amsterdam, Anchorage. Sweet aroma mostly of dried fruit. Dark amber with a thick tan head. The flavor is mostly sweet, there is a bit of sourness in the middle and then finishes sweet again. Goes down smooth and has a thick feel. This is a great beer, definitely sweet but goes down smooth and leaves you wanting more. Usually after one sweet beer I’m done but I could see drinking these all night.
