Commercial Description:
Brewed in traditional German style, this dark lager will take the chill off a cold winter day. An inviting toasted malt aroma preludes a flavor-mélange of caramel, bread, and chocolate. With deceiving strength, this full bodied beer is ready for sipping now or laying down.

This is simply one of the best beers produced in the state of Alaska. Alaska produces some extremely delicious beers, so that is no small compliment.

This bottled brew from Jeff Squire, thanks Jeff!, poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized mostly diminishing orange brown colored bubbles that left behind a transparent softly carbonated pretty caramel brown Doppelbock colored body and a fair lacing. The aroma was very mild with sweet malty notes. The mouth feel was tingly and sweet at the start then mellowed in its finish with a lingering sweet caramel malty aftertaste. The flavor contained sweet malt mild caramel soft honey notes. Over awl after awhile it became too much and was just too sickeningly sweet.

Courtesy of jsquire. Poured a very small tan head that quickly dissipated, minimal carbonation, transparent, and a ruby hue. Nose was malty sweet, caramel, and alcohol. Sweet, malty, caramel and some roastiness. Tingly, sweet, dry palate. Medium body.

Out of the bomber bottle. Clear ruby red beer with a thin fizzy beige head that disappeared quickly. Nose of burnt malt and alcohol. This has a thick syrupy mouthfeel. Burnt caramel sweetness with plum, over-ripe fruit and dark bread. Almost smokey sweet malt that tended toward white sugar as it warmed.

Bottle (Limited Edition 2005): Dark ruby, remains fairly clear, moderate off-white fizzy head, dies quickly leaving only a ring, sparce lacing, very light carbonation.   After a few minutes it appears almost still.   Sweet malty aroma, bready, caramelized grains, nutty, slight alcoholic tinge.   Smells great to me because of the lack of astringent dark fruit and/or sourness sometimes associated with the style.   Rich bready flavor, malty, quite sweet, hints of caramel and even roasted malts, coffee, licorice, and chocolate.   Lots going on, but very subtle.   Smooth this is, with a somewhat quick finish.   Light alcohol presense on the backside.   Very warming, but not hot.   Big in body, but mouthfeel isn’t as viscous as I would have guessed based on the nose.   Finishes dry with a combination of burnt caramel, nuts, and raisins spread on whole wheat bread with a slight hop bite.   Pretty damn good I must say, sweet, but not cloying, fairly big, and smooth.   When the hell are these guys gonna come to Washington?!?!
