Bottle thanks to AmEricanbrew. Dated 5.9.2008. Pours with a dark brown body and a fluffy white head. Aroma is earthy (hahaha), strong coffee, slightly spicy with vanilla. Taste is earthy, with chocolate, spicy coffee and a bit of dirt. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel.

Thanks to beerbill for sharing - kind of pours looking like cola, but it kicks up a sizable lace - the aroma is explosively chocolaty, with a bit of doughy character, and a touch of roast - medium bodied, full carbonation - semi-sweet flavor, with a bit of cocoa dryness - a tiny bit of dark fruit is the only thing vaguely belgian about this - mostly a straightforward chocolate stout, but a decent one.

22 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with AmEricanbrew. Pours black with a moderate brown head. Pleasant aroma of Belgian yeast with notes of coffee and chocolate. The flavor is again Belgian yeast with chocolate and some mildly roasted malt. A light cardboard flavor emerges in the aftertaste.

Poured a deep brown color with a small brown head. Coffee aroma with a chocolate base. Sweet roasted malt. The coffee gets old grind notes as it warmed. Roasted malt flavor with coffee and some ash. Sweet start with a dry finish. Very lively mouthfeel. Light-medium body.

pours a stark brow tonopaque black. Aroma is slightly sour and of bitter chocolate. IInitial flavor is bitter chocolate followed by a full bodied palate. Could be slightly more complex the flavor but is a great beer.I

Usually Midnight Sun makes solid beers so this was a bit of a surprise. I don’t know what went wrong but whatever it is this does not reflect the potential of a great Alaskan brewer. Give it a try but be aware it is subpar for their standard releases.

Aroma / Appearance - The fluid black body smelled of chocolate milk which has been left out just a little too long. Something seemed just slightly askew; it was not a nice aroma for the nose.

Flavor / Palate - Fluid and thin bodied it needs more presence to set it apart from a host of other stouts. Sessionable and safe the combination of malt and hop bitterness gives it something to stand on but not much. Only the roasted malt finish keeps it from being a total letdown. I’ll give Midnight Sun credit for trying but this one just misses the mark.
