Commercial Description:
Our 13th Anniversary ale is a blend of new (70%) and old (30%) beers. The new is brown ale with sour cherries, fermented with a Belgian yeast strain. The old is seven-year-old beer to which berries, lactobacillus, pediococcus, and brettanomyces were added along the way. This sour beer aged in American oak Cabernet Sauvignon barrels for four years before being transferred to stainless kegs, where it continued to do its magic for the last three years. In May the sour funk was blended with the fresh brown ale, then bottle- and kegconditioned with yet another Belgian yeast.

Thank you Tom for sharing this gem! Poured a medium and cloudy amberish / brownish color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of stawberries, some brett / funkiness, other berries, chocolate, and fruity. Chocolate covered tart berries. Tastes of lighter berries, some funk, lighter chocolate, caramel, and other fruits. Lively body. The tastes more on the subtle side vs. the fantastic aroma. I wrote down ’different’.

Transparent dark copper mahogany pour has a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and fresh tart black cherries with nice oaky complexity. Body starts with good fullness for a sour with the appropriate amount of carbonation, sweet Belgian maltiness, vinous oak and assertive tart fruity notes before a sweet-tart finish. An enjoyable and well-balanced sour ale.

Poured a hazy brown red color with a small, creamy, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of leather, brett, some caramel, dried fruits, toast, and strawberry. Taste of sour cherries, nuts, strawberries, some caramel, and a tart finish. Thanks Tom!

Big Thanks to TomDecapolis for sharing this bomber. Pours almost muddled rusty amber with a thin head. Aroma is slightly acidic, also some green apple acetaldehyde, musty strawberry, tart green aplle skin, light acetic acid and vinegar, with an oxidized caramel malt sweetness which reminded me of Veritas 003 a bit which we had in the same night. Fruity acetic flavor, almsot like rspberries, old musty barn and farmhouse, pedio- cherry pie character and sournes in the end which was more like the cuvee de tomme (batch 1). Has some residual body and could become a bit more sour as it ages.

Pours a lightly hazy brown with a bunch of ruby notes and small bubbly off white head. Aroma of light strawberries, tons of bretty/lacto funkiness, floral, dark fruits, toasted malt, vinous, perfume, toffee, raspberry pie, I can’t stop sniffing this one and catching some different every time. Flavor of a light lacto/brett funkiness, berries, toasted malt, some nuts, floral, very dry and very tasty. Hard to put into words, this one is very unique. I had this after an aged Cuvee de Tomme...so these numbers are saying something.

Muddy chestnut brown with just a small island of bubbles settling on top. Nose was interesting nothing other than Kalamata olives with some dark woody accents...which at that point, I wasn’t sure I liked until had a taste of the beer...Uniquely thin bodied vinous flavors, sweet grapes at the start but ending on a dry note. This beer was as clean as clean can be from first sip to the very finish...not a single off flavor floating around anywhere. My only potential issue was that it might be a tad too thin and one dimensional but on the other hand, that just may be the appeal.
