| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 5, 2008 Pours very dark ebony with red hues at the edges and a thin tan head. Nutty chocolate up front, dry and a funky bitter finish with cocoa lingering off in the aftertaste. The beer starts with a nice roastiness, but the finish was thin on flavor and didn’t have enough malt depth to really win me over, just so-so. Nik925 (305), California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 2, 2008 Amazingly smooth. Buttery. Great malt and lacing beautiful color and creamy head. Amazingly made but something small overall come up short keeping it from a higher score. A wonderful brown ale. BrotherGrendel (611), San Diego, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Purchased online from Bottletrek, poured into a Duvel tulip.
Appearance is a dark rich brown with amber highlights, frothy tan head mostly sustains, thick lacing on the glass.
Smell is roasty sweet malts with a dominating tone of nuttiness, some hints of cocoa/coffee, dark fruits, molasses, alcohol.
Taste is good for the style, caramel and roast malts complimented by the nutty overtones, some sourness and light cocoa creep in towards the middle, finishes with the nuts and malts.
Mouthfeel is light/medium-bodied, creamy smooth texture borders on watered down and thin, low carbonation.
Drinkability is moderate, a fairly pedestrian example of the style, no major flaws but nothing tantalizing to warrant a repeat tasting, there are better Browns out there for the money. AmEricanbrew (2003), Almost, Texas, USA

Decent nut brown flavors of molasses, brqwn sugar, light cocoa with some dusty roasted malts. DuffMan (2784), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2008 Bottle, purchased at Thibideau’s in Juneau. Bright red-brown, thick tan head leaving generous lace. Very bready aroma, along with nuts and chocolate. Breadcrusts, caramel, mild nutty and chocolatey notes. Hops were there too, but really take a back seat to the malt here. Very nice. savnac (455), Palmer, Alaska, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 31, 2008 On Tap in my keggerator for a friends wedding. I picked up a 5gal keg of this and a 5gal keg of Hef for a friends wedding. I thought the easy drinking lighter Hef would go quicker but the Brown was polished off first.
Aroma: bread, nuts, roasty, earthy, woody
Appearance: brown, hazy, tan foam
Flavor: medium sweetness, lightly bitter, medium sourness
Palate: medium body, creamy, average carbonation, long finish
One of my favorite beers from Midnight Sun Brewery, always good on tap and decent out of the bottle. hoppybeers4me (15), Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 21, 2008 On tap at the brewery July 11. Easy to drink brown ale. Nothing really special, was mildly disappointed, but still bought the long sleeved Tshirt, since the art is really great on all of the Midnight Sun products. Would be happy to give it another try next visit, as it’s hard to fairly rate beers when you are trying so many styles back to back. beerbill (1982), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 13, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a mostly clear brown with a moderate tan head that lasted through three-quarters of the glass and left a nice curtain of lace all the way to the end. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, a hint of coffee, and a leafy aroma. The flavor is again lightly roasted malt and a bit of coffee, followed up by some mild-moderate hops. Light-medium bodied.
