Commercial Description:
Rugged yet smooth, Kodiak Brown Ale sports abundant yet graceful portions of pale and specialty malts, balancing caramel sweetness with a roasted malt character. Perle and Willamette hops accent without overpowering this brown ale's intrepid maltiness. The result is a bit bold but beautifully balanced. That Kodiak Brown Ale is our most popular beer says something about the adventuous spirit found in Alaska. But we are not surprised; we know Alaskans are not afraid of the dark.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium to dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, roasted nuts), with a note of brown sugar. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively/fizzy carbonation. Not a very pleasant carbonation level/texture (almost like soda-pop), kinda wet and syrupy too. Very simple but somewhat attractive aroma. Needs more bitterness to balance the big sweetness (the nose portends correctly).

Bomber. Beer is very dark brown, nearly opaque. The head is tan, small, frothy. Diminishes rapidly.
The aroma is malty with moderate notes of toasted grain, caramel; Hoppy with light notes of flowers, grass/alfalfa; Yeasty with a light note of dusty cellar, trace of dough; Trace miscellaneous note of honey.
The flavor is moderately-to-heavily sweet, trace acidic, lightly bitter with a long, lightly bitter, moderately sweet finish. Some grassy metallic in the initial retro.
The body is medium, the texture is watery-to-syrupy and the carbonation is lively.
Nice brown. Roasty, sweet treat.

Bottle sampled on 9/20/06: Pours a clear amber brown with a thin ring of light tan head. Aroma of mildly earthy toasty malts and some light doughy character. Flavor is drier than expected with some toasty earthy presence and some slight cardboardy character. Needs more sweetness for balance.

Poured a nice chocolate amber color with big long lasting head. The smell had a nice roasted malt presence with some fruity/nutty notes. There is a malt sweetness with roasted undertones in the mouth with coffe bitterness in the finish. Very drinkable. Note this one was made for Utah with an ABV of 4.0

Bomber from Liquid Solutions. This has a nice lightly toasted chocolate aroma with mild caramel and cocoa notes. It smells pretty damn good and has a solid concentation, the only fault is a slightly dusty cola tinge. The body of this beer is orange/brown and a two finger thick tan head sit aloft it while slowly fading and living clinging lace. It’s a good looking beer.
Doesn’t live up to the aromatic and visual hype. The fore is dusty and dirty with sweet raisin tinged malt and a hint of sweet bread and ever so slightly toasted accents. The raisin asspect becomes very dominate the more you sip and melds with the faint chocolate notes. I’d like some nuttiness and more of a roasty/toasty character, but I’m a sucker for raisins and especially raisinettes so this ends up being better, for me, than I’d have thought it would have from the initial sip.

22 oz. bottle Pours a brown color with a small off white head. Has a light toasty malt aroma. Light caramel malt flavor. Light to medium body. Nothing fancy, but easy to drink. Wortha try.

(07.15.06) One pint 6 oz brown bottle from Liquid Solutions. Sweet malt aroma. Poured clear amber with giant off-white head. Soft carbonation. Medium bodied ale that starts with light malt sweetness and toasted malt/caramel/fruity (raisin) flavors. Some sharpness (carbonation?) in the mouth. Finished with light malt fade. Some slight off flavor –oxidation product? Unfortunately the bottle did not have a freshness date. A decent drinkable beer but nothing really special.
