| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 29, 2009 Bottle pours a slightly hazy chestnut brown. Nice blocky tan head. Woody sharp malt aroma. Somewhat astringent woody malt flavor. Earthy and yes...cola. A bit hoppy and sharp for a brown and pleasant to the end.
I wish I had better access the MS beers.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Pretty solid, medium-light hoppy brown. Reminds me a bit of not-sweet chocolate covered orange peels. OK, but would not bother seeking out again. killjoy966 (227), Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 20, 2009 Solid brown ale and my first Midnight Sun. 22 oz. bottle from Fred Meyer. Had a malty robustness that I wasn’t quite expecting, though I guess that’s why the bear looks so menacing. Decent break from the crazy amount of winter warmers I’ve been drinking lately. daknole (3027), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 13, 2009 Bottle from mmmbeer brown pour. Aroma has caramel, ripe fruit, slightly metallic, and I swear I smell a little hint of dog food. Yeah I know, WTF? Flavor is nutty and a bit prickly on the tongue. Slightly metallic flavor. Odd beer. Pours a deep, opaque brown with almost no light showing through. The head is absolutely massive and very rocky with lots of big bubbles and leaves a huge thick clump of head on top for the duration. The lacing is very impressive as well.
The aroma is pretty subtle and unimpressive honestly with the roasted malts and caramel coming through the most. There aren’t any hops that I could get.
.
The taste is slightly better with the sweetness from the caramel malts coming out a little more with a very slight bitterness in the finish, more from the roasted character than hops.
The mouthfeel is very carbonation, probably over-carbonated in fact and pretty light on the palate.
A decent brown but a little too light and not nearly complex or tasty enough to be considered a great beer. One of the few times I’ve not been impressed with an MSBC beer. mmmbeer (765), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 24, 2009 22 oz. bottle (from Liquid Solutions) served in a long forgotten stein- poured a solid brown with tints of ruby and maroon, low carbonation, aroma of various nuts, caramel, yeast, malt, and a note of brown sugar. Hits the mouth with a medium body, malt has been roasted and slightly sweetened, a nutty/earthtone comes in lightly in the middle, finish is complete. Possibly a little favored on the rating, but it is my favorite style. Still, I should get it over with and move to Alaska for the beer, hunting, and fishing. Now. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 15, 2009 Bottle. Mahogony brown beer with a light tan head. Light roast, craamel, and coffee aroma with light hops. Coffee and caramel flavor with light roast and light earth. Medium bodied. Caramel, light roast, and light hops linger. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2009 Copper to ruby in color. Smaller beige head. Sweet grain, brown sugar, buckwheat honey, and herbal hops aromas. Flavors are sweet with grain and roasted peanuts. LIght floral and herbal finish and linger. One of the better brown ales. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 11, 2009 Bottle from The Bier Stein in Eugene, OR. Poured a brown color with a brown head. I was expecting a lot more from the beer. Just another nutty brown ale with a hop finish. A good brew, but far too expensive.
