Commercial Description:
This double bock provides smooth sailin’ in rough seas. The fact that this luscious lager was aged in rum barrels creates the illusion that the open sea is a safe place. And while riding out these waves of grain, you may fall victim to the dangers of pirates, rum, bock. OK...maybe the beach is a bit over-rated.

Dark orange color with a small, quickly dissipating head. Aroma like any good double bock, with sweet grains and dark fruit and brown sugar. Just a hint of rum. The rum barrel aging is definitely subtle, and the rum gets lost a bit competing with the strong tastes and sweetness of this beer. But overall the flavors work very well together. I just wish they had let it age in the barrels a month or two longer.

The nose has a load of odd rancidness. Softly sour and funky with a kiss of cherry but it doesn’t really work all that well for me.

Bottle shared by Larry (or so i thought when i thanked him). Thank you Kan for another new midnight sun rating, sweet! Pours a golden orange bruen with a rum and oak aroma. Rummy lush etoh, frutiy apples and pears tones amongst the etoh warming. Shit just read pauls rating...now i feel bad.

Bomber shared by Pantanap. Thanks Kan! Sorry you left before someone opened this :( Pours a slight hazed honey copper with a thinning head. Aroma is sweet, honey, toffee, light green raisin, a bit of alcohol- rum burn, brown sugar, carapils sweetness and some moderate fruity esters. Flavor is a bit sharp with sweet rum, brown sugar, caramel, butterscotch, then turns a bit crackery malty, and some minimal hop bitterness- a bit slick. Seemed a bit one-dimensional and nothing really going on- if it didn’t say bock, you wouldn’t even know this was a lager.

Bottle at Paul’s place for Kan’s visit courtesy of Kan. Pours a clear orange with a thin white head.. Grain, malt, empty cardboard. Thin, grainy, bitter. Finishes with a bit more bitterness. Meh.
