decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Feb 11, 2009 Dark pour with brown head and lace. Huge notes of abv, burnt coffee, and a hint of choco. Slick coffee with a big sweet as well. Full bodied with medium carbonation. A beer that made my head swim to breath deep. A very nice beer. SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Feb 9, 2009 Thanks to Lithy for sharing this one at decaturstevo’s Februmergency Tasting.
From my wants list too, Thanks again!
Opaque black with a tan head.
Bourbon, alcohol, coffee roast malts chocolate, and vanilla are among the aromas that come easily from this brew.
The flavors follow the aroma.
Full bodied sipper. tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Feb 8, 2009 Bottle at our Febmergency tasting, best by 12/12/17. Pours black with amber extremities and nut much head. The aroma is alcohol, chocolate, espresso, vanilla, oak, and cherry. The flavor is strong alcohol, coffee, some distant oak, vanilla, and ash. The alcohol is surprisingly well masked. Altogether this is pretty textbook for the extreme imperial stout genre, but it’s very well executed. Oh, and it’s my 1600th rating! Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Feb 8, 2009 Tasting @ argo0’s place. 375ml bottle, cork marked 12/12/17. Courtesy of acrdz. Jet black pour with a ringed brown head. Awesome nose - chocolate liquor, roasty malts, rich. Flavor is... AWFUL. Way, WAY too hot and boozy, tar and dark fruit over bitter coffee. I guess, according to the commercial description, I’m a sissy, but I like drinkable beer. Will age help? I can’t imagine, but who knows... there is lots going on in this beer, but it’s obliterated. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Feb 7, 2009 Bottle at decaturstevo’s Februmergency Tasting for those of us that missed out on Sexual Chocolate ’09. Thanks to lithy for getting us all fucked up! Pours a near black with the smallest ring of brown head. Great aroma of milk chocolate, roast, expresso, sweet vanilla, and some alcohol. However, the alcohol on the aroma is nothing compared the amount on the flavor, as well as anise, bourbon, and roasty chocolate. Very cool deliver of such a high amount of alcohol. Best mikkeller beer I’ve had. nate2g (1034), Brisbane, Australia Feb 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with a dark brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark bitter chocolate, coffee, licorice, dark fruit and alcohol. The flavour is roasted malt, dark chocolate, sugar, coffee, licorice, dark fruit and alcohol. This is a huge beer, the mouthfeel is extremely oily and a very long harsh, bitter finish. It’s quite rough now but surely would cellar nicely. Will come back for more in a few years. SaintMatty (1197), Tallinn, Estonia Feb 7, 2009 375ml Bottle (Thanks Svesse) - Black in colour with a tan head. Rich chocolatey aroma with molasses, chocolate and some hoppy hints. The taste is rich, bitter and warming. Chocolate, molasses and coffee feature in the taste. It’s incredibly rich and definitely one to sip slowly. Not bad but I still think it’s a bit of a gimmick. mixinnixon2000 (227), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 4, 2009 Bottle. Poured black with no head. strong smell of alcohol. The flavor was sharp with a tangy aftertaste. Too thick. Probably wouldn’t have this again
