PMgep (71), Lund, Sweden Nov 21, 2008 [Bottle] Black as my soul! Brown foam, aroma of burnt sugar and chokolate. Taste is coffee, chokolate and burnt sugar. A beer to be tasted in small doses, atherwise it will get to much. JLAudio (282), Crestwood, Illinois, USA Nov 21, 2008 Updated: Jan 28, 2009Wow. This is like drinking bourbon. Pours a phenomenal black opaque with no head to speak of. There is no lacing either. The aroma can be smelled from 5 ft away...straight oak and bourbon. This beer is a powerhouse! Slams the palate of bourbon, oak, rum, raisins, charcoal, dark chocolate, vanilla, cherry, leather, and cocoa dusting. The flavors are NOT by any means balanced, but they are complex as hell. The alcohol is detected with ease, and burns the throat. The mouthfeel is off a bit, but for nearly 18% ABV, it is very acceptable. DFH World wide has nothing on this beer. Whatever this beer lacks in complexity, it makes up for in pure power! This is top notch. Scauca (408), Lovere, Italy Nov 20, 2008 Black as ink, dark brown thick head. Aroma is quite complex, bitter choco, licorice, coffee, tobacco(ish), soy sauce, yet you can feel a strange sweetness you don’t expect from a beer like this. Flavour is tainted indeed from loads of sweet added sugars which burns your mouth combined with those not that hidden 17,5%. Pinball (2692), Allerød, Denmark Nov 18, 2008 bottle tasted at home., bottled dec 2007. 17.5%
aroma is alcoholic, coffee and roasted grains, appears pitch black, dark brown smooth head, flavor is very sweet, very roasted grains, borwn sugar and caramel. imo too much alc. and not enough to show for it. still of course quite an interesting brew. lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Nov 2, 2008 Style and Glass: Imperial Stout; Snifter
ABV, Volume & Calories: 17.5% in 12.7 fl oz. estimated at 400 C
Purchased at: Canal’s Lawrenceville, NJ for $18.99
Neither of those (17.5 or 18.99 or 12.7 fl. oz. ) are typos.
Aroma: amazing, coffee, cocoa, hay, barnyard, oak, alcohol, ether.
Visuals: world class packaging, blackness, midnight, deep woods, solid, thick, viscous, staying tan head, intricate lace.
Taste: nicely balanced, off the charts in malt and hops, a new level of strength. Superb.
Palate: highest quality, syrupy texture, long dark finish.
Overall: The DFH 120 minute IPA of the world of imperial stouts. All others pale. It is without a doubt the best beer I have ever tasted in my life. I will go and clear the shelves of it, whatever the cost. It’s not only a favorite, it is my new superlative standard. Highest value for the highest craft. Mikkeller is only posing as a human. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Nov 2, 2008 Bottle. Big alcohol on the nose. Also some molasas and tobacco, coffee roast. Black body with dark tan head. Thick impy stout flavos of coffee, and wet tobacco. Nothing to really peak my interest here than normal stout with abundance of alcohol. drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA Oct 28, 2008 The final round of a beer dinner last night. Dark, roasty, intense. One of those oil can stouts I really enjoy. Served with an espresso torte. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Oct 27, 2008 About a 1/2 inch thick head from a vigorous pour. Infinitely small bubbles and super dense. Reduces slowly. Super strong and rich aroma. Lots of coffee, alcohol, sweet malts, little bit of basalmic vinergar without the sour notes. Some nutty aromas in there also. Color is black with hints of black around the edges and some more black when held up to a strong light. BIG flavor and alcohol presence. Lots of hotness and alcohol that slaps you in the face the moment it crosses your lips. Oily mouthfeel. Sweet malts, carbon, smoke and some chocolate. Bit of burnt wood and vanilla burried in there also. Finishes oily and hot and delicious. This brew is definately getting better as it warms. Really smoothing out. Lingering carbon and smoke. A damn fine brew and one that is slowly putting me on my ass. A nice over ther top brew.
