Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proef Brouwerij, Lochristi-Hijfte, Belgium.

The strongest beer in Scandinavia. This imperial stout is the craziest, wildest, strongest beer from Mikkeller to this date. Not for sissies.......! Sample it fresh or store it for many many years to come!
Ingredients : Water, malt, roasted barley, dark cassonade, ale yeast and champagne yeast.

hapjyduece brought this to PP bottle shop. Thanks Justin! Recipe for Mikkeller Black: One cup of espresso + 1 cup sugar + 1/2 cup Everclear. Incredible nose burning aroma of tons of malt. Espresso with tons of sugar. Way over the top flavor. Tastes severly underattenuated. Syrupy texture. Great tasting beer, but very low drinkability. Not sure whether to rate high or low.

I’ll give it to them this is one crazy beer, but personally I think it goes to far. The words that come to mind are "Massive" and "Train Wreck". Pours a pitch black, with no light penetration, thin dark tan head. The aroma is very boozy, lots of alcohol and some chocolate, soy sauce, and roasted malt hidden behind it, then in your face bitter hops. There is a lot of flavor going on in this imp stout, but all the flavors are very sharp with little harmony. Dark bitter chocolate, espresso, dried dark fruits, creamy sweetness, cocoa beens, and then extremely bitter hops that don’t meld with the malt. Yes, it is complex, but way way over the top.

Bottle from Keg Liqour. Poured black color with a moderate to large frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Heavy toasted dark chocolate and sweet fruit with a small alcohol aroma. Full body with a creamy texture. Heavy sweet chocolate malt flavor with a heavy bittersweet finish of long duration. This is a heavy standout beer.

The first time I sampled this, I was drunk so I didn’t rate it. The second time I sampled this, I wish I had been drunk so I didn’t remember it. I am fairly confident we’re supposed to believe that Chinese character stands for ’black’ or whatever, but it kind of looks like a monster. An evil, sinister monster that would trick you into drinking soy sauce-infused nail polish remover and then post pictures of you all over the Internet. The beer is an implied ulcer.

PIB 2008. Over the top imperial stout... drool. Intense flavors of every sort, chocolate covered cherry, dark chocolate, molasses, rum, coffee, flavor and flavor. I can see some peoples point, it is over the top, but I’d be lying to say I didn’t enjoy every drop.

Poured at Portland International Beerfest--A dark black abysmal opaque beer with a small tan head. Rich, roasted malt bomb with a multiplicity of complexities. In your face but not over doing it if this is possible. Quite bitter, sweet, fruity, and WOW!

Bottle @ DTS. Roasted malt, varnish and salt in the aroma. Sugary sweet flavor, varnish, roastbitter and caramel. The alcohol is reasonably well hidden, but a lot of force is used to hide it. Not a trace of any balance. This is really too much!
