Massive nose, filled with chocolate, brandy, and a little dark fruit. Big time flavor as well, extremely complex. There is some more fruit and brandy, with a load of roast coffee on the finish. Excellent beer, a little harsh right now but with a drink by date of 12/17 this could be incredible in a few years. DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA

Heavy aroma of dark chocolate, espresso, and earthy malts. Heavy coffee in the flavor. Not very roasty but lots of thick sweetness. Like a coffee molasses. Aftertaste is a lingering dryness with some hop/alcohol flavor. Extremely warming, and not overly heavy if you split a bottle. JorisPPattyn (5163), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 10, 2008 Thick greige head over for all purposes black beer indeed - a purple shine upon pouring, maybe? Deep alcoholic, brandy or brandycake, chocolate, dark fruit as plums, sauced tobacco. Complex, but rather sharp roasted taste, black breadcrust, coffee. Alcohol is amazingly hidden - relatively speaking at least. Nice sourish lining, nearly fruity. Bitter dark grapes flowing. Extremely viscous, oily, nearly solid texture and body. Another indeed extreme beer from MIkkeller/De Proef. Certainly out of the ordinary, and well worth trying despite its not inconsiderable price. oberabcbbsok (686), Hoboken, Belgium

Very good, but very sweet, indeed...... Magicdave6 (5490), London, Greater London, England

Alround rating: Wow, honey, floural nose, a black mead for sure, very sweet indeed, burnt finish ruins it but would be an excellent non honey mead. faroeviking (6023), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 28, 2008 Botella. Rating # 3900. Poured in a big cognac glass. Pitch black colour with a huge dark brown creamy long lasting head leaving a great sticky lacing. The aroma os bustling with heavy roasted malt and alcohol along with chocolate, dark sweet fruits and coffee. Great filling mouthfeel. The flavour has plenty of roasted malt, lots of alcohol, bitter chocolate, lots of dark fruits, well roasted coffee, some liquorice and bitter hops. Too much alcohol in the flavour. Should have a few years in a cellar before drinking. Bragesnak (2257), Aarhus, Denmark
