Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 12, 2009 Flaske: Kulsort med intet skumhoved. Absolut ingen karbonering. God duft af sukker og en smule humle. Smagen er faktisk også vældig god i betragtning af den høje alkohol procent. Hvad der derimod er utilgiveligt og gør øllen udrikbar er at den er komplet flad. Virkelig skuffende
Ober (1161), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Jul 8, 2009 A pitch black colored beer, with a dark beige/brown head. The aroma of alcohol, dar fruits and notes of porto.cognac. The taste of a lot of alcohol, with porto and cognac. It’s dry bitter like expresso. The aftertaste of dark malts, alcohol and bitterness. Joen (7), Zeist, Netherlands does not count Jul 7, 2009 Wow, am I pouring ice coffee? Yhere’s no foam, but it has a beautiful aroma of caramel, and roasted malt. Also hidden in the aroma are some flower tones indicating the higher alcohols.
Proceeding to taste the beer.
Starting with a sweet port like taste, to a bitter roasted taste. Beautiful.
Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Jul 1, 2009 THOUGHTS: Wow. Almost a liqueur. Great flavor, but not very complex. While it’s a different style, this reminded me of Sam Adams Triple Bock, but not as good — especially in the hiding of alcohol. Although I’ve never had a Triple Bock that wasn’t at least 7 years old. This one can really kick you in the ass though. If it could hide the alcohol at all it would be better. I could feel the burn in my eyes when I sniffed it and on my tongue as I drank it. Aging might mellow it nicely.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that was completely opaque black in the glass with an average tan head that kept a decent sheet and left good to excellent lacing. The aroma was heavy to almost harsh, milk chocolate, chocolate syrup and cocoa powder, some hops and tons of alcohol. The initial flavor was extremely sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was very sweet and slightly less bitter. with an average to long duration. There was chocolate syrup, soy sauce, cocoa, alcohol, slight hops, coffee, more alcohol, some dark fruit near the end and plain old chocolate. The body was medium to full in the mouth, but full going down the throat. It was oily and very slick, buts also very sticky on the lips like syrup with fairly soft carbonation and a moderate to heavy alcoholic finish. kyzr (1119), Belgrade, Montana, USA Jun 24, 2009 Black pour with small brown head. Nose has chocolate, coffee and alcohol. Flavor is rich with a heavy roasted coffee, and bittersweet chocolate. Ultra full body that is filled with hop bitterness and a ton of alcohol. It finishes with a bit of tobacco. raymondwave (867), Finland Jun 24, 2009 Bottle 0,375 l. Soy saucy brown black with a quick fading brown head (there was no blop when opening the bottle). Nose has espresso coffee, chocolate, vanilla, german herb liqour like Jaegermeister, very herbal and some alcohol. Flavor is pretty much the same, espresso bitterness, roastiness, herbs. Some liqourice. Alcohol is there, but that’s not really a surprise. Very good and even balanced. Very positively surprised for such a beast. grandet (477), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 17, 2009 Bottle in a trade with OldStyleCubFan. Poured a jet black color with no carbonation at all. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt. caramel, and tons of alcohol. Smells very strong. Taste is very oily on the front of the mouth. Tons of alcohol jumps out and stays. besides the alcohol, there is some coffee, chocolate. Hard to get over the alcohol. This one is a sipper but can be enjoyed. Pretty interesting. chrisv10 (335), Denmark Jun 17, 2009 Bottle. Crazy beer almost to much. Body is blacker than black. Very small head. Aroma and flavour is coffee and alcohol. Tasted to much of alcohol for my flavour.
