Pours opaque with a small, fizzy, dark brown head, mostly lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, caramel, chocolate), average hops (perfume), average yeast (leather) with notes of prunes, wood, smoke, tar, and licorice. Full bodied, creamy and alcoholic texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, heavy sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. blankboy (3212), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 7, 2008 Bottle (375ml) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours black with a small somewhat-lasting creamy light-brown head. Aroma of alcohol along with notes of coffee, roasted malt and fruit -- but mostly alcohol. Flavour: Holy shit, is this moonshine? It starts relatively normal with some hops and espresso but then BANG!, there’s an incredibly long boozy / bitter finish that doesn’t end. This is a big boozy bitter bastard! It’s way too intense for me. Try as I might, that’s the highest I can rate this. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 27, 2008 As black as black can be. Aromas are complex with the diesel fuel up front along with anise, burnt malts and fruits. This is a real alcohol monster. Flavor of orange and chocolate are also there. This stuff should be put in a time capsule for future generations to enjoy, as I doubt I’ll be around from when the it matures. TomDecapolis (3194), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 4, 2008 Updated: Mar 8, 2008Thanks to hopdog sharing this one. Pours dark motor oil black with a medium creamy/bubbly deep tan head that left some lacing. Aroma of intense alcohol, floral, very fruity, roasted malt, coffee, some chocolate and the hops are still there. Flavor of roasted malt, alcohol, some fruity notes, nuts, fresh hops are still there and molasses. Might want to hold for 3-6 years instead of the 1-3, this alcohol is intense. I guess I’m one of the sissies... 黑 hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 21, 2008 Corked and caged bottle. Medium sized light brown head that mostly diminished, very little lacing, opaque, no visible carbonation, and a black hue. The aroma was roasty, chocolate, malty, coffee notes, slightly toasty, alcohol, and lightly hoppy. The flavor was bitter, thick, malt, coffee, roasty, hops, alcohol that warms your innards, hint of chocolate, and a dry finish. Slghtly tingly mouthfeel and medium-full bodied. This is a sipping beer for sure due to the presence of the ABV, very tasty, nicely done, a big beer for sure IMO, definitely worthy of a try, and I would drink this again. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 26, 2008 Bottled, bought in Vejle. Hazy brown color, no head. Sweet vanilla aroma, chocolat. Very very alcoholic taste. Initial taste is brilliant, but immediately alcohol kicks in and finshes with extreme dry bitteness. Could have been so much better. Now it is so over the top. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 21, 2008 Black colored, medium sized beige head. Totally rich aroma with sweet roastiness dominating, berries, mild alcohol, port wine with strong grassy hops here also. Full bodied. Flavor is even more port winous with creamy soft palate and dominating roastiness, hops also come up, not very much though. Sweetness lasts in roasted aftertaste. Well, pretty much of everything here, not too balanced though. WeeHeavySD (3002), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Pricey bottle, via trade, so I kinda sorta paid for it. Poured in my Reidel Snifter, black with a light brown 1 finger head that chilled out and turned into some islands. Nose is malty with a a lighter fluid coffee, nail polish remover heat. Taste is sweet, very hot very very hot with lots of rich deep malts. This is a weird super hot beer, that has joined the hype train for Mikkeller, once again for me Mikkeller is hit or miss. Sometimes amazing, sometimes okay, sometimes strange and sometimes not so exciting, this is in some of those camps.
