| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 29, 2008 I’ve really wanted to try this for a while now. It has some of the most inconsistent ratings. Black pour, moderate to large tan head that lasts. Impressive given the strength of the beer. Aroma is huge alcoholic chocolate, roast, somewhat fruity. Quite vinous. Thick, heavy body, quite sweet but not overly so because it’s loaded with roasted bitterness, lots of alcohol as well. BIG BIG BIG. Balance is another issue, but I still enjoyed it. tronraner (1933), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 8, 2009 Bottle at our Febmergency tasting, best by 12/12/17. Pours black with amber extremities and nut much head. The aroma is alcohol, chocolate, espresso, vanilla, oak, and cherry. The flavor is strong alcohol, coffee, some distant oak, vanilla, and ash. The alcohol is surprisingly well masked. Altogether this is pretty textbook for the extreme imperial stout genre, but it’s very well executed. Oh, and it’s my 1600th rating! | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 11, 2008 Black with a frothy brown head, nice lacing. Huge, boozy roasted malt, cocoa sweet aroma. Thick viscous surprisingly smooth mouthfeel. Big, boozy blackened malt flavors with an earthy chocolate sweetness. A nice after supper sipper here. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Feb 8, 2009 Tasting @ argo0’s place. 375ml bottle, cork marked 12/12/17. Courtesy of acrdz. Jet black pour with a ringed brown head. Awesome nose - chocolate liquor, roasty malts, rich. Flavor is... AWFUL. Way, WAY too hot and boozy, tar and dark fruit over bitter coffee. I guess, according to the commercial description, I’m a sissy, but I like drinkable beer. Will age help? I can’t imagine, but who knows... there is lots going on in this beer, but it’s obliterated. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 8, 2008 Bottle. Pours motor oil black with a small brown head and fair lacing. Aroma of burnt malts, coffee, chocolate, alcohol and a hint of leather. Rich flavor of dark malts, bitter dark chocolate, roasted coffee, licorice, and lots of strong alcohol. Full bodied with a huge booze alcohol finish. marcus (1885), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 25, 2008 Bottle shared with bhensonb. This totally opaque dark brown ale poured with a thin tan head and an overwhelming chocolate malt aroma. The flavor is heavy duty chocolate and coffee with a strong alcohol finish. Make this your last beer of the night. Thanks Bill. kappldav123 (1867), Markkleeberg, Germany
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 6, 2008 The bottle looks strange, but good. The beer in the glass is deep black, almost oily. Aroma very alcoholic. Tastes incredibly strong, very complex, notes of chocoloate and coffee. Dry finish. Impressing!
Thanks to yespr for the bottle! mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 4, 2008 Pours pitch black, with a thick well retained light brown head. Smells of big roasty malts, mild dark chocolate notes, nuts, and a definite alcohol presence. The flavor was big and boldas expected. The alcohol burn was definitely there. Certainly wasnt balanced well, but i dont think they intended too. Just a monster of an imperial stout. The chocolate flavors really come out as it warms the palate as it goes down. Just a monster of a beer, but I enjoyed it, even as unbalanced as it was.
