Pitch black colour with a huge dark brown creamy long lasting head leaving a great sticky lacing. The aroma os bustling with heavy roasted malt and alcohol along with chocolate, dark sweet fruits and coffee. Great filling mouthfeel. The flavour has plenty of roasted malt, lots of alcohol, bitter chocolate, lots of dark fruits, well roasted coffee, some liquorice and bitter hops. Too much alcohol in the flavour. Should have a few years in a cellar before drinking. bierkoning (6084), La Tropica, Netherlands
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jul 21, 2008 Bottle @ DTS. Roasted malt, varnish and salt in the aroma. Sugary sweet flavor, varnish, roastbitter and caramel. The alcohol is reasonably well hidden, but a lot of force is used to hide it. Not a trace of any balance. This is really too much! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 18, 2008 Bottle. A black beer with a big brown head. The aroma and taste is of roasted malt, lots of coffee, nutts, sugar hops and alcohol. Full body with a long coffee, alcohol burn finish. I bought a sixpack, and are going to let the rest dust up in my celler for some years wich I think will round it up a bit, it´s a bit sharp and fresh right now, but good! | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Mar 4, 2008 A Mes rate: Bottle at the Struise Farm during Urbain’s Post Zythos Struise Tasting. At this point, other than a certain very expensive piece of Samuel Adams lunacy, this is the silliest beer I have had. In fact it’s a total nut box. Completely wrong in the mind tank. Totally black with a head so dark, dark brown does not do it justice. Shit the bed this is hardcore. Rubber, tarmac, sulphur, roasty coffee, thick tarry malt and 100% dark chocolate. Fuck me this is BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG. We had a Péché Mortel before this and Claudia pointed out she needed some sugar with it. That wasn’t a problem once we opened this. It’s like chewing on a sugar cube but the rest of the sensory assault means it is englufed in blackness. The malts are stunning but this is a Mikkeller beer so that is a given. Big dirty sting from the alcohol that gives you a serious size 15 boot up the arse. The finish just doesn’t stop. I swear it will be enhancing whatever I drink for the rest of next week. It’s like being in a dragster. Relentless accelleration that shows no sign of slowing. The mouthfeel is just a little too thick but what do you expect? A celebration of malt and alcohol and downright perversion. This is the devil in a glass and he is high on his own outrageous version of crack cocaine. Mikkel what WERE you thinking???
Love it! thewolf (5803), Kolding, Denmark

Pours utter pitch black with a tiny, creamy, beige film head. Aroma is very vinious at first, but really settles into an impressive (and soft) aroma of chocolate, hard roasted malts and coffee with slight vanilla notes. Quite high in carbonation, making it less creamy and more lively than expected. Which is quite nice. Flavour is very vinious, sugary sweet with lots of hard roasted malts. Good coffee and dark chocolate notes. Lots of super dry hops in the end. This is impressive, but very much over the top. bu11zeye (5608), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 26, 2008 (Bottle) Pours an opaque black body with a small tan head. The aroma is down right abuse on the nasal cavities with jet exhaust, DEET mosquito repellent, burnt roasted Cuban coffee…made me think of the Cuban coffee shops in Little Havana with no air filtration systems… An equally abrasive, toxic, extreme bitter coffee and roasted malt flavor and a lingering bitter finish that does not go away.... Should come with a warning label about possible side effects to your senses… Way over the top for me, but am sure it came out as designed by the brewers. hopdog (5608), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Mar 5, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark, dark black color with an averaged to larger sized off white head. Aromas of alcohol, dark fruits, chocolate, roast, nutty, chocolate, and roast. Tastes of lots of alcohol that pretty muched drowned everything out. The other tastes in the background were dark fruits, molasses, and roast. Syrupy body and brown sugary sweet. Did I mention, this one was all about the Alcohol at this point. The Alcohol burn stayed with me for a long time. Let this one sit for, hmmm, 20 years? Magicdave6 (5551), London, Greater London, England

Alround rating: Wow, honey, floural nose, a black mead for sure, very sweet indeed, burnt finish ruins it but would be an excellent non honey mead.
