Aromas are complex with the diesel fuel up front along with anise, burnt malts and fruits. This is a real alcohol monster. Flavor of orange and chocolate are also there. This stuff should be put in a time capsule for future generations to enjoy, as I doubt I’ll be around from when the it matures. hotstuff (3176), Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 21, 2008 Corked and caged bottle. Medium sized light brown head that mostly diminished, very little lacing, opaque, no visible carbonation, and a black hue. The aroma was roasty, chocolate, malty, coffee notes, slightly toasty, alcohol, and lightly hoppy. The flavor was bitter, thick, malt, coffee, roasty, hops, alcohol that warms your innards, hint of chocolate, and a dry finish. Slghtly tingly mouthfeel and medium-full bodied. This is a sipping beer for sure due to the presence of the ABV, very tasty, nicely done, a big beer for sure IMO, definitely worthy of a try, and I would drink this again. sayravai (3767), Helsinki, Finland
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 19, 2008 (Bottled) Almost black with a small, brown head. Bready, very leathery aroma with chocolate, milky sourness and some soy sauce. Quite an alcohol burn in the flavor with burned malt, some black coffee, but also syrupy soy-sauce sweetness. Full-bodied, very malty palate with low carbonation. Like Black Hole, but with more alcohol and sweetness. Not very drinkable when young, but might be good when properly aged. pineypower (1104), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 2, 2009 Pours out black with a small lacing head. Aroma is of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, some dark fruits and some alcohol. Taste is complex and definitely full bodied. Roasted malt, chocolate earth, smoke, dried fruit and some lingering sweetness, for being so strong on the alcohol it did finish boozy, but not as much as I would have expected, then again this bottle was well over a year old. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 1, 2009 [Bottle from beermerchants] Pours so black that no light gets through even when held up to a lamp. Very dense, thick head of a dark brown colour; very pretty. Big, powerful aroma of dark chocolate, roast, prune, port and a lot of alcohol. Extremely full bodied (as you’d expect) with a lot of sweetness upfront. Lots of dark chocolate and roasted malt on the palate, muscavado sugar, prunes. Leads to a very bitter, alcoholic finish (though perhaps not quite so alcoholic as one would expect). dirkbreedveld (247), Netherlands
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 20, 2009 Used this beer in a beer and food session. Great with blue cashel cheese, fresh acidic goat cheeses. The beer is very strong in bitters and the acids in food will solve this one dimension aspect of the beer. Solo it’s even a bit boring. Witf food exciting. madsberg (5056), Søborg, Denmark
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2009 Bottled. Pitch black coloured. Small almost non existing brown fluffy head. Sweetness, roast, chocolate, light liqourice, light fruits and a touch of alcohol in the aroma. Flavour is strong. Dusty soy souce, sweetness, liqourice, roast, espresso, light cocoa and heavy, heavy alcohol. Quite smooth though. Medium to full bodied. Dry. Roasty, almost cloyingly sweet and alcoholdense end. Very special beer. Hadn’t I known the ABV, I would never have guessed the 17.5 %. Hides the hight abv extremely well. Dorwart (1828), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 27, 2008 About a 1/2 inch thick head from a vigorous pour. Infinitely small bubbles and super dense. Reduces slowly. Super strong and rich aroma. Lots of coffee, alcohol, sweet malts, little bit of basalmic vinergar without the sour notes. Some nutty aromas in there also. Color is black with hints of black around the edges and some more black when held up to a strong light. BIG flavor and alcohol presence. Lots of hotness and alcohol that slaps you in the face the moment it crosses your lips. Oily mouthfeel. Sweet malts, carbon, smoke and some chocolate. Bit of burnt wood and vanilla burried in there also. Finishes oily and hot and delicious. This brew is definately getting better as it warms. Really smoothing out. Lingering carbon and smoke. A damn fine brew and one that is slowly putting me on my ass. A nice over ther top brew.
