Aroma is really intense: red wine, old fruits.. First touch with lips feels like drinking melted dark chocolate. Flavor reminds me of complex and full-bodied red wines, dark chocolate, coffee, dark old fermented fruits. Alcohol tastes and feels clearly but not in a bad way. Smooth, full-bodied, complex, delicious palate. This is the best stuff I’ve tasted so far. grandgenie (252), gatineau, Quebec, Canada

It pours black (funny!) with dark brown head. I thought that the alcohol would kill the head immidiatly, but it stays.
Nose is alcoholic. The most alcoholic beer aroma I have ever tried, even in stronger beers. It is like sticking you nose in a good vodka. Wildly alcoholic, and I like it:)
Apart from that, mint, and roasted sttuff.
Very full, extremely long aftertaste.
Faurschou gives up, I get the rest of his glass. Everyone else agrees, and gives up as well.
I am now left with the remains of the two bottles. I don’t give up. Although it does mark me badly the next day, I do not give, but enjoy every sip, and they are sips. Very small moutfulls, all of them wonderfull.
Thank you, Mikkeller, and thank you Michael for buying. World class beer. gyllenbock (322), Stockholm, Sweden
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 22, 2009 Bottle, SBWF. As Mikkeller wrote, "Not for sissies!"
A powerful beer, beautiful with a sense of port wine, raisins and chocolate. The foam was non-existent and the beer was black.
The body was heavy. The taste was a bit fiery of all alcohol although not unpleasant. Burnt tones, chocolate, fruit, sweet, port wine, smoke, fruit, malt, yes an experience! MesandSim (5955), London, Greater London, England
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Mar 4, 2008 A Mes rate: Bottle at the Struise Farm during Urbain’s Post Zythos Struise Tasting. At this point, other than a certain very expensive piece of Samuel Adams lunacy, this is the silliest beer I have had. In fact it’s a total nut box. Completely wrong in the mind tank. Totally black with a head so dark, dark brown does not do it justice. Shit the bed this is hardcore. Rubber, tarmac, sulphur, roasty coffee, thick tarry malt and 100% dark chocolate. Fuck me this is BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG. We had a Péché Mortel before this and Claudia pointed out she needed some sugar with it. That wasn’t a problem once we opened this. It’s like chewing on a sugar cube but the rest of the sensory assault means it is englufed in blackness. The malts are stunning but this is a Mikkeller beer so that is a given. Big dirty sting from the alcohol that gives you a serious size 15 boot up the arse. The finish just doesn’t stop. I swear it will be enhancing whatever I drink for the rest of next week. It’s like being in a dragster. Relentless accelleration that shows no sign of slowing. The mouthfeel is just a little too thick but what do you expect? A celebration of malt and alcohol and downright perversion. This is the devil in a glass and he is high on his own outrageous version of crack cocaine. Mikkel what WERE you thinking???
Love it! Veer (355), Landskrona, Sweden
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 14, 2008 Aroma: very powerful, black malt, big roasted backbone. Alcohol, estery (elderberry), fiery, orange, slightly fudgy, vaguely of smoke & ancient leather, coffee, rowanberry.
Flavour: big, sweet, sourish, extreme malt bitterness, burnt sweet liquorice. Great balance of obscene & extreme falvours. Absolutely adorable. Alcoholic burn & mandarin sweetness. Some oak tones? Very bitter aftertaste with hints of beautiful hops, red onion & golden grapefruit.
Appearance: ridiculously dark - black coffee-/red-tinted with superfine dark tan head leaving a greyish film. Awesome.
Palate: very smooth, fluffy, vinous, oily, surprisingly ’fruit-juicy’... could almost swear they’ve put some juice in it. KimJohansen (7143), Copenhagen V, Denmark
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 21, 2008 To celebrate my 900th rating. Black with large brown head. Aroma is packed with hops and I get notes of roasted malt, chocolate, liquerice, coffee, overripe fruits and alcohol. Loads of alcohol in the flavor but the hops blances it nicely. Again roasted malt, dark bitter chcocolate, port and coffee notes. Lovely! EHSRanders (1121), Randers C, Denmark
