Bottle 25 cl. Slightly hazy amber with a small off-white head. intense smoky aroma of burned plastic and phenols. Solid body, sweet caramel and massive smoked notes of burned plastic. Not much bitterness but a solid alcohol burn. 300809

25 cL bottle. Pours hazy deep brown with a lacing off-white head. Dense smoked aroma with a herbal note. tarish. Flavour is solid caramel malty with a light acidic note and more smoke coming through in a tarish way. Growing acidic note that seems rather disharmonious to the good smoke notes. Bitter and acidic finish. Smells nice but the flavour really puts me off.

Bottled. Hazy amber, small head. Rich medicinal rauchmalz aroma. Medium sweet with and aggressively flavourful. Oak collides with smoke and sugar. There are evident medicinal notes. A warming and potent beer that certainly stands out in the typical Mikkeller fashion. By far not my favourite from the though.

Bottle 25cl. @ home.
Unclear dark brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, carame, dark berry, raisin, prune, moderate to heavy smoke, burnt plastic, chimney smoke. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long duration. It is okay because of the sweet flavor and alcohol. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. [20081119]

Bottle, 11.5%. Good smoky aroma, charcoal, old bonfire. Cloudy dark brown colour, a bit muddy. Good smoky flavour, quite sweet and with plenty of alcohol. The alcohol finish burns a bit. I like my Rauchbier light and cleansing.

Bottled. brown colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is smoked mals, licorice, and mild alcohol. Flavour is toffee, licorice, smoke and some alcohol. When warm it gets quite alcoholic in all ways.

Deep amber with a medium beige head. Aroma had peated malt, toasted malt, caramel and wood. Flavour was sweet and vinious, toasted malt, caramel, peated malt and ripe fruits. Finished smoked and sweet. Best smoked I have had. Excellent!

25cl bottle from the special opening on Saturday during Copenhagen BF 2008. Smoke and barley wine on the aroma. It is a bit like cigarette smoke which is a bit weird. Clearly a rauch barley wine from the aroma. The stale cigarette smoke carries on into the mouth. The sweetness of the barley wine character kicks in. This brings some decent dark red/black fruits. As the smoke fades, the barley wine comes through. Mouthfeel is fullish due to the alcohol and the fruits. The jammy fruit is really quite attractive. Finish has more ashy smoke, but also a bit of acidity on the jam fruit. The fruit I think is excellent, but I’m just not sure the smokiness blends with it too well. The fruit though is quite gorgeous. Not sure the whole works. Lovely sweet strawberry jam with a bit of tartness on finish.
