Cask at Københavnske Øldage. Black pour, with a little topping of tan bubbles. Very coffeeish nose, with both chocolate and hops. Quite bitter in the mouth, from both hops and coffee. Even though there’s lots of coffee flavor, it feels rounded and smooth. Probably the most fullbodied cask beer I’ve ever tasted, dry, and with a long coffee finish. Yet another wonderful, crazy beer from Mikkeller. (070511)

Cask at Københavnske Øldage. Black with a small light-brown head. Big aroma of black coffee, pungent hops, black chocolate and grass. Full but really flat flavour which fits this beer excellent. Black coffee, luxury chocolate, piney and grapefruity hops, nuts and dark dried fruit. Dryish flat mouthfeel with low carbonation. Long intense finish of black coffee with notes of grassy and piney hops. Crazy stuff.

Cask at KØ07. Black colour, very small brown and big-bubbled head. Starts off quite bitter, turns into a distinct coffee flavour. Finishes with a very roasted coffee aftertaste and very late roasted malt bitterness with some alcohol. Once one gets used to all the other flavours, it turns out to be quite hoppy as well. So hoppy that it bites the throat after a while. The texture is oily, but somehow still thin. Quite interesting and with a good story.

RB #500. CBF07 sample from cask. Pours black with a huge brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee. Creamy mouthfeel. Taste is very complex yet in perfect balance, the different coffee gives the beer much soft feel. There is coffee and bitter hops together with tart bitterness of the chocolate that is providing a differentiated bitterness through a sip. Starts hop bitter, then coffee followed by chocolate and ending in a characteristic coffee bitterness blended with hops. Chocolate and oatmeal also provide a sweetness and softness throughout. Aroma hops (cascade and centinnial) gives the beer a slight touch of freshness without at any time stealing the picture from this full coffee, chocolate and oatmeal breakfast. Overall a softer beer geek than the bottled version.
