[Another century celebrated with a Mikkeller beer - this time 8300] Cask. A pitch black beer with a bubbly brown head. The aroma is of very dark bitter sweet dessert chocolate, and ground cocoa beans combined with light notes of grapefruit and coffee. The flavor is very complex with notes of dark bitter chocolate, grapefruit, good coffee, and a good deal of hops, giving it a nicely bitter finish.

(Cask) Completely black and opaque - no head at all. Very burned, coffeish aroma - even a vinous whiff. The body is medium and the dark malts are very burned with distinct hints of coffee. The finish is solidly bitter. But the flatness and the murky, headless appearance really deducts in my book. 110507

RB #500. CBF07 sample from cask. Pours black with a huge brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee. Creamy mouthfeel. Taste is very complex yet in perfect balance, the different coffee gives the beer much soft feel. There is coffee and bitter hops together with tart bitterness of the chocolate that is providing a differentiated bitterness through a sip. Starts hop bitter, then coffee followed by chocolate and ending in a characteristic coffee bitterness blended with hops. Chocolate and oatmeal also provide a sweetness and softness throughout. Aroma hops (cascade and centinnial) gives the beer a slight touch of freshness without at any time stealing the picture from this full coffee, chocolate and oatmeal breakfast. Overall a softer beer geek than the bottled version.

Cask at Københavnske Øldage. Very black, no head. Salty tarry nose. Sweet and salty, soft and solidly malty, yet never sticky or bold. The hops and the coffee has a drying effect, but still lets malt driven licorice flavours dominate. Salty bitter finish. Excellent beer. Had this as the first beer on the festival, and already then I knew that even if this was to be the best beer of the festival I would not go home disappointed. Not just a wacky beer, it’s actually damn good!

Cask @ Københavnske Øldage 2007 in Copenhagen. Dark brown / black color with a small head. Aroma is heavy malty, burnt, dark chocolate, strong coffee, moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and heavy bitter with a long duration. Body is full, texture is oily, syrupy, carbonation is flat. Very nice ;o))

Cask at KØ07. Black colour, very small brown and big-bubbled head. Starts off quite bitter, turns into a distinct coffee flavour. Finishes with a very roasted coffee aftertaste and very late roasted malt bitterness with some alcohol. Once one gets used to all the other flavours, it turns out to be quite hoppy as well. So hoppy that it bites the throat after a while. The texture is oily, but somehow still thin. Quite interesting and with a good story.

Cask (or Draught?)@EBF 20008. Rating found on back of receiptsI found when packing up stuff from moving. Pretty much a pitch black colour with a mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is coffee, licorice, some roasted malts and also shows some slight notes of alcohol and nuts. Flavour is coffee, licorice, some roasted tones as well as some mild notes of bittenress.
