Jan 7, 2009 2007/22oz (from Bottleworks, thanks trevor211), unfortunately not for breakfast because we were so dead from the stouts from the night before. Deep pour with sheen and tight diminishing mocha head. Nose is spicy coffee, vanilla and maple. Malty, bitter coffee taste that is a bit thin but filling and tasty. Dark roast coffee, jerky, meaty. Salty? I like the ’breakfast’ idea! mellow, sweet. Nicely done but doesn’t blow my sox off (have I put them on yet?). Definitely would be my mimosa/bloody mary substitute of choice!

Jan 7, 2009 Pours out black with giant creamy root- beer head.Smells roasty fresh. Taste is coffee and malt. Not sweet at all,dry bitter finish from the hops. Has a ceral quality. Nice mouthfeel, very drinkable stout.

Jan 6, 2009 Bottle. Roasty coffee and chocolate aroma. Black body, huge brown head. Flavor is semi-bitter coffee and a hint of chocolate. Strong roasted malts. Long long finish that reinforces the coffee character. Super.

Jan 6, 2009 07 bottle from Bottleworks. Pours a shiny black, with a dark mocha head. Thick pour. The aroma has a lot of coffee, layered over sugary cacao and vanilla. Flavor is definitely coffee-heavy, roasty, dark and bitter. There’s a surprising lack of chocolate in the flavor, which I’m so used to in big stouts. I could absolutely see having this with breakfast - coffee notes, and a somewhat mild flavor, all things considered. I simply think stouts need to be bigger than this.

Jan 5, 2009 My first beer of 2009 and this is certainly a good one. Pours black in color and generates a big fluffy brownish-tan head. Great head retention, lacing after each sip. At first the aroma consists of molasses, chocolate and toasty bold coffee beans. I taste those three flavors as well, however the molasses are rather mild compared to the heavy chocolate and coffee, which is bold and roasted but also a touch creamy. The beer is capped off by a generous dose of bitter piney hops which I also pick up in the aroma as the beer has warmed a bit. What I love about this beer is that is is packed with flavor while being very drinkable. I’m not sure I’m going to start drinking this for breakfast but I do look forward to having it again. Great start to the new year!
