Nose is roasty- chicory, spice, earth, and some light smoke permeate this one. Flavor is similar with sweetness periodically. Bitter, coffee, and earthiness define this beer more than a sweet oatmeal stout. Pretty good overall. PorterPounder (3138), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Black as tar, thick pour with a sticky khaki colored head. Thick aroma with lots of fresh ground coffee, licorice, and chocolate. Full-bodied flavor with tons of coffee, chocolate, oatmeal and a back end of licorice. Nice bitterness throughout, Excellent lacticity with lots of creamy thickness. Overall excellent - best I have had in ages. alagnak (356), Littleton, Colorado, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 7, 2009 Deep black and oily pour, classic stout appearance. Aroma is really well balanced ’roasty’ and grain with deep dark chocolate. Taste is, well, phenomenal. Sweet oatmeal (like ’Oh’s’ Cereal) and bittersweet chocolate dominate, the finish is where I get the coffee, and it’s a really nice balance to the sweet oatmeal. This is a really well done stout. Great balanced flavor, nothing to gripe about at all. leems (149), Portland, Oregon, USA

This guy poured black with a thin khaki coating of head. Lots of roasted notes, cereal, coffee, and chocolate. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Delicious. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 3, 2009 16.9 oz. bottle. Pours a dense black with a large, luscious, light brown head that lasted beyond mid-glass and left a patchwork of lace on the glass. The aroma is superb with tons of rich chocolate and fresh coffee along with just a bit of roasted malt. The flavor is much more heavily dominated by coffee than the aroma. Its still quite nice, but much more one-sided. Fresh coffee with roasted malt, tobacco and some chocolate. Bitter coffee finish. An enjoyable beer, albeit a bit expensive at $13/bottle. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 1, 2009 Bottle. From my pilgrimage to Whitefish MT. Pours a very deep brown, but not black, very dense and dark, light cannot penetrate it. Head is big, cappuccino-colored, and sticky. Nose is very roasty, with coffee, ash, oats, a savory woodsmoke note in there too. Palate is very coffeeish, nice mouthfeel, good acidity, nice fluffy ash character in the finish. Flavors of roast malt, smoke/hung meat. Absolutely no metallic or alcohol character at all. I find myself very susceptible to any metallic notes in a beer, especially dark beers. For this to have none is saying something for me. Very nice, glad I bought 3, but not my favorite stout.
