May 5, 2009 Sampled from the bottle courtesy of Smokepot23@AleSmith’s tasting bar: Black in color with a small tan head. Aroma of toasted dark malt, dark chocolate and a hint of coffee. Flavor starts dark chocolate followed by some stong coffee and a dark chocolate bitter finish. Full body is rich and smooth with moderate carbonation.

May 4, 2009 Nutty malt aroma. Smells like real nuts thats nuts and coffee too. BLACK color with a large brown head. Moderately sweet beginning with a mild finish. Light palate for a beer this dark making it really easy to drink.

May 4, 2009 Picked up a 22-oz bottle from Discount Liquors in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque new black onyx colored brew with a thin tan head that quickly dissipates to a swirl film top. Aroma of toasted dark malt, dark chocolate a hint of coffee, and more cocoa. Taste if full bodied, thick and chewy, with flavors of toasted and smoked dark malt, chocolate, coffee and a hint of molasses. Finish is mildly bitter with a lingering dark chocolate and smoked dark malt aftertaste. Most excellent.

May 3, 2009 bomber into a snifter. Pours thick black with a thick thick tan head, excellent lacing - beautiful beer. Aroma is chocolate malt, burnt coffee, dark fruit, black licorice. Flavor is similar with dark chocolate, dark fruit, caramel, and coffee with a nice roasty bitter finish. Excellent beer, almost looks better than it tastes though.

May 3, 2009 Pours like black coffee with huge head that has the look of frothy chocolate milk. The malt seems to have been roasted to the point of being burned, with bitter chocolate, and strong espresso aftertaste.
This is one of the best-looking beers I have seen, but the taste didn’t quite live up to my expectations. A re-rate might be in order one day...

May 2, 2009 Nice and dark pour with a creamy head. Chocolate and coffee overtones. nice and smooth aftertaste it definitely belongs on the top 50 list. I will buy it again.

Apr 30, 2009 A pitch black beer with a large frothy dark brown head. Complex aroma with strong notes of high percentage chocolate, dark roasted coffee and tobacco. Flavor is robust, with a smooth maltiness. Strong notes of espresso, much due to its acidity, with hints of chocolate and roasted coffee beans. It’s saltiness and bitterness makes wonder if this isn’t really an imperial stout. Gets better the closer it gets to the right temperature!

Apr 27, 2009 Bottle. Pours pure black with a large cocoa colored frothy head. Looks fantastic! Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, black coffee and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is of strong bitter chocolate and espresso. Nice lingering bitterness finishes it off. Great oatmeal burps too! Fantastic stout... I love this one. Finally I’ve found a chocolate stout that compares to Founders that I can get locally!
