Bottle. Pours pure black with a large cocoa colored frothy head. Looks fantastic! Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, black coffee and a hint of alcohol. Flavor is of strong bitter chocolate and espresso. Nice lingering bitterness finishes it off. Great oatmeal burps too! Fantastic stout... I love this one. Finally I’ve found a chocolate stout that compares to Founders that I can get locally!

Appearance: Pours a deep black body with a large, creamy-looking, tan-head that, when I turned to look at the final moments of the film "Monsieur Verdoux", had grown to absolutely monstrous proportions. Good heavens! Smell: Exceptionally roasty, aromatic nose of sweet-smelling dark chocolate-covered espresso beans, charred oats, and some oven-roasted caramel squares. Roast, roast and more roast. Taste: The taste launches off with a sharp, highly roasted coffee extract flavor with malty touches of bittersweet chocolate, fire-scorched oats, chicory, and smoked black licorice. Lesser hint of vanilla. Faint blip of citrus hops buried under tons of roasted, malty rubble. The bold roasted bitterness ends up on a feedback loop as you drink. The aftertaste begins to turn a charry and acrid as it lingers almost indefinitely, but, as you make your way to the bottom of the bottle, the finish eventually smooths out, as flavors of sweet dark caramel, seared marshmallows, and burnt bread crumbs start to emerge. Finishes dry, very roasty, with a pure taste of chocolate-covered espresso beans carrying over from the aroma. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Drinkability: As it begins to really hit its stride upon some very slight warming, the beer goes down unusually easy. It is very impressive, yes. Recommended.

Pours a nice inky black with a pillowy soft dark tan head. The head is full and dense adding a nice creamy texture. Chocolate malts, rich roasted coffee, oatmeal, and dark lucious fruits accompany each other in the nose. The dark coffee is prevalent alongside of the deep complex fruits, rich chocolate, and bitter hops. The thick and creamy body balances the tremendous flavor of a robust breakfast coffee and sweet oatmeal nicely. This is fantastic; simply delicious!

Pours a huge, rich and velvety brown head. Great lacing and lasting head. Chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark fruits and molasses nose. Bitter dark chocolate, hops, coffee, rich and velvety like a chocolate liquor. A delicate bitter hop finish. Great charactor!!

Aroma of booze, coffee, roasted malt. Pours black with a large free-standing tan head, abundant lace. Buttery caramelized roasted malt flavor, some heat and aniseeed and booze, coffee on the finish. Very thick on the palate.

Bottle. Poured deep black with a medium chocolate brown head. Aroma is of sweet roasted malt, hops, coffee and maybe some chocolate. Flavor is amazing! The coffee definitely comes thru but is in no way over-powering instead it perfectly compliments the sweet roasted malt base. The coffee flavor is of a mild roast like a breakfast blend, very nice. The hops are definitely present as is some bitter chocolate. Carbonation is near perfect and the mouthfeel is silky. Excellent. By far the best coffee stout I have had so far.

A: Pours as black as any beer I have ever seen, light has no chance of penetrating this one. The head is dark mocha colored and exhibits great retention. Sheet after sheet of lace. S: Wow this is a bold coffee stout no doubt about, though I would expect no less from Mikkeller. This one is high on the char. Bold over roasted espresso stand out. Hints of very bitter dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla. T: Wow I like this one. This is one of the boldest coffee stouts I have ever had. Many others are all about nice light coffee. This one is about the roast. Tons of dark black coffee that has been sitting on the burner all day. Touches of chocolate and booze as well. M: Full bodied yet easy drinking brew.
