Aroma of coffee and chocoale. Taste is of roasted coffee, chocolate, light hops. Mouth is big, dry, and carbonation is mild. Finish is lightly bitter. Not a bad brew that would go really well with most deserts. zeke626 (302), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2008 Thanks to akevitt for sharing. Bottle, pours an opaque, black body with generous creamy, dark brown head. Aroma of roasted/burnt dark malts, rich coffee along with hints of hops, smoke, and cocoa. Strong burnt malt taste along with a strong espresso flavor. Bitter coffee finish; thick mouthfeel. level4 (24), New Jersey, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep black with a small chocolate milk colored head. The aroma is smoke and expresso. This is my first stout and I felt I would be initimidated by an overpowering taste. Preconceptions can be very misleading. This stuff is so silky smooth and incredibly balanced. Drank about 1/4 of it with warm brownie and ice cream, the rest I didn’t want anything to intefere with my palate. The taste is coffee with such minor bitterness that goes down so easily. It’s a great feeling to have unlofty expectations and to get totally blown away. mar (1842), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 4, 2008 Updated: Jan 11, 2009Bottle. Dark brown/almost black color with a large light brown head.
Aroma is dominated by the coffee together with some dark chocolate, roasted mat and smoke.
Flavour is also very coffee-dominated, but there’s also dark chocolate, tobacco, liqourice, smoke and even some milky/creamy notes. Behind this dark flavours there’s some aromatic hoppy notes and decent bitterness which remains in the mouth for a while.
Mouthfeel is great. Very smooth though all strong coffee flavours. Not extremely filling, but still very good.
Drinkability is high for such a "dark beer" with many complex flavours. Outstanding beer. 17thfloor (1480), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 4, 2008 Pours an oily black with a great creamy brown head. Fantastic espresso, tobacco, roast and vanilla aroma with some hop bite as well. Light watery but smooth and creamy with very subtle carbonation, big mouthful. A very drinkable straight-forward full-flavored stout. Perfect balance, sweet and bitter with a dry finish. Oatmeal, dark chocolate, roasted malt and coffee beans. A bit of tobacco. The hops work so well with the coffee and pinch your cheeks in. Subtle yet powerful. Long coffee finish, two sugars and a cream. [adds instant ecstasy to any dessert pastry]
