t4h2c0 (47), seattle, USA Oct 8, 2007 I had a sample out the bottle at SIB and in my opinion this beer did not stand up to all the hype. Pretty light for a stout and flavor is not over the top. Good summer stout. I think the hype comes from it being somewhat rare.
robforbes (626), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 19, 2008 pour is jet black with a large brown head, very nice lacing.
smell of cocoa, roasted espresso, touch of vanilla bean.
taste is backers chocolate, coffee, some sour malt, a roastiness, ends dry with some bitterness to it, as it warms becomes more milky. kmeves (983), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Jul 18, 2008 Pours a oil dark black with a big brown head. Aroma is moderately sweet, coffee, chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor is coffee, oatmeal and dark chocolate. Medium body, creamy texture. Finish is long and bitter chocolate.
502Flavors (165), Kentucky, USA Jul 18, 2008 16.9 oz. bottle into pint glass. Pitch black pour with huge dark tan head and lace (like a perfect impy). Aroma is great and complex - roasty dark malt with coffee, vanilla, and milk chocolate. Flavor is nice and bitter on the front and finish with a background that mirrors the aroma with a strong smoke quality - refreshing and complex. Medium bodied on the palate. Overall: really good, looks, smells, and tastes like an impy. with a bit thinner mouth feel - almost like a light version of a great imperial stout. jbuzz (406), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottle thanks to sprinkle.poured Dark brown to black with a HUGE brown head.Sent of roasted malts and coffee. Big complex taste. merlin48 (326), Henderson, Kentucky, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle pours dark and inky, and sits ebony and opaque in the glass. Tall khaki brown head has some garnet hues on its fringe and leaves some impressive sticky lacing. Aroma is not as coffee dominant as expected. Bakers chocolate, burnt dark roasted malts, cedar hops, and freshly ground Kona coffee beans comprise the nose. Rich and coating in the mouth, not quite full bodied. Carbonation a bit too aggressive. The coffee comes to life in the taste, with assertive notes of espresso. Bittersweet chocolate and pine hops add to the dry and roasty profile. I can’t pick up any oatmeal notes. Another nice offering from Mikkeller, but not on the same level as some of America’s topnotch coffee stouts(Founders).
