25cl bottle courtesy of fonefan poured into a snifter. No doubt about the blackness of this one as it pours completely black straight out of the bottle and settles in the glass with no light penetrating. There’s a smallish tan head that hangs around for a while and leaves spotty lacing. The smell is big and dominated by dark burnt malts with some spent coffee grinds and dark chocolate as well. Some licorice and dark fruits creep in as well, but the overall smoky character is what struck me more than anything. The taste is even more smoky. It’s almost like an amped up smoked stout with a huge smoked malt backbone that really dominates throughout. There’s some bakers chocolate and hints of vanilla and licorice as well as the aforementioned coffee. But the finish is sooo smoky and leaves a big lingering aftertaste between sips. The mouthfeel is on the full side, like a dessert with the thick sweetness up front. The finish is altogether different with a dry campfire smokiness, like a cigar aftertaste. Well, I’ve definitely been looking forward to this one and I had no idea how smoky and charred this beer was going to be. I actually really like it, but I was definitely caught off guard by the smoke which is much, much more dominant than the coffee. They call this one Beer Geek Breakfasts big brother, but I’m not so sure their more than just distant cousins. Massive thanks to Jan for the opportunity.

Nip. Thanks, Thewolf and after4ever! Pours opaque black with a lacy brown head. Alcohol-laden aroma of chocolate and coffee. Medium-full body, nearly still. Coffee, chocolate, with some oatmeal and brown sugar in the taste.

Thanks to Fonefan. Pours black with a thin brown head into my snifter. Good Lacing. Head disapates rather quickly. Nose is full of chocolate, coffee and some cereal grains. Texture is oily with average carbonation. Moderate sweetness gives way to a light bitter end. Malt seems to stick to the tongue. Very Nice stout.

(Bottle, purchased at Ölbutikken, Copenhagen) Pitch black colour with creamy, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of black coffee, cocoa, chocolate, citrus and pine needles. Hints of ashes and smoke. Heavily roasted, malty taste with strong black coffe, espresso, dark bitter chocolate, cocoa powder, ashes and citrussy, piney hops. Long finish with a generous, but fairly balanced coffee/cocoa bitterness with a piney touch. Full body, smooth mouthfeel. Alcohol very well hidden behind everything else. Complex beer in brilliant balance. A stunning brew and yet another impressive stout from this brewer. Excellent!

bottle thanks to Papsoe. Pours thick and black like used motor oil. Only a faint wisp of a tan head which dissipated except for a thin swirl. Nose of coffee, oat, molasses and slight smoke. Taste of coffee, oat, fruit, some chocolate and a little molasses. Complex brew. Mouthfeel is medium with a little dryness. Very smooth and tasty brew. No harshness at all. Loved this.

Bottle thanks to Daknole. Excellent thick viscous appearance with lovely brown head. Hot but lovely coffee aromas. Coffee, dry chocolate with rich, dry, ultra thick compacted fudgy dark chocolate. Supergood.

March 09 I did a progressive BG tasting with Breakfast, Brunch 0ne-for-One and Brunch Weasel. Weasel was the clear winner, but one-for-one was a close second. It pours black with tan head. Has a good mix of coffee, chocolate and smoke. Overall a bit more liiquirice flavour and acidic compared to the smoother weasel.
