Aroma of burnt malt, tobacco and licorice. Maybe a touch of chocolate. Flavor is rich and creamy chocolate and toast malt. Full mouthfeel and smooth. Good beer. I wouldnt typically drink this by myself, but the size of the bottle makes it tough to share. tarjei (1762), Bryne, Norway

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 17, 2008 250 ml bottle - thanks again after4ever for yet another Mikkeller gem; mark this one down for setting my expectations too high being that Beer Geek is one of my favs; pours jet black with thin tan head; aromas in your face as a rich, milky coffee bomb; but boy does the flavor fall flat, especially against the other 3 Mikkellers sampled; roasty , but very thin; quite tasty, but the weakest in this lineup; thanks again tom for sharing all of these treats JohnC (2288), Mission Viejo, California, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 29, 2008 Big thanks to yespr for this beer! Small bottle, looks really good. Deep black, almost oily in the glass. Tastes strong, scratchy-malty, but not too much. Oily, prickly finish, a bit woody, notes of liquorice. A beer to enjoy! Maria (6326), Thisted, Denmark
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 15, 2008 It’s pitch black with a small, creamy, dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, coffee, licorice, light dark fruits and hints of ash/chalk. The mouthfeel ins oily and nice. The flavour has a roasted bitterness, notes of coffee, licorice, light dark fruits and a hint of ash/chalk. It’s intense, full-bodied and very nice and the finish is extremely long. I like it a lot, but the “normal” version is the love of my black heart... after4ever (2828), Brier, Washington, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 2, 2008 250. Thanks, Thewolf! I’ll take the rather unpopular position among the group last night and name this the best Mikkeller brew of the four we tried. Jet black with burnt tan head. Big chocolate and coffee nose. medium body, slightly creamy. Chocolate, coffee, prunes, and a little vanilla on the mid-palate. Long baking chocolate finish. Decadent, complex, satisfying--great stuff.
