| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 23, 2009 500mL bottle from Perry’s Liquors for $17.99--that place is way too effing expensive--I don’t think I’ll go back. Clear deep deep mahogany--black in the glass--with a big ass tan head. Lots of roasted malts, coffee, and unsweetened cocoa up front in the aroma. There is also a light caramel/vanilla sweetness. Some tar and pine sap are behind. Was this supposed to be hoppy? Letting it warm up a little bit I can get the oatmeal and some dark chocolate. I go into these highly rated beers wanted to hate them, but damn, so far this is great. The flavor adds the right amount of alcohol and a little soy, but otherwise, much the same--there may be a little bit of smokiness, but I wouldn’t go as far to say campfire. The finish is semi-dry with bitterness at a 4. Big full slick body with light carbonation. Quite the tasty beer, but I don’t need to spend 20 bucks (with tax) on it again. My other bottle is coming back to Iowa. yemenmocha (413), Glendale, Arizona, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 23, 2009 Pours opaque black, medium brown tan head. Holds well in my snifter, with lace forming as the head recedes a little.
Aroma is a complex roasty, chocolatey, nougat-like medley. There’s also an odd, indescribable funky component in there too, though not necessarily a flaw.
On the palate the thick, syrupy body pleases quite well, and canvasses the palate with rich roasty flavors, espresso & espresso crema, and finishes with a pleasant bitterness that is found in the best of espressos.
Finish is thick and rich with flavors of dark roasted coffee beans, almost charred from roasting. MaltOMeal (653), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 22, 2009 bottle. Pours inky black with a nice brown head. Nose is wonderful espresso with cocoa. Taste is coffee and tasty chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium, thinner than expected with carbonation. Very nice brew, but liked Brunch One-for-One better. dionysus (116), Arizona, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 22, 2009 Bottle pours a slick, oily black with a dense mocha head sitting atop. I couldn’t resist poking, leaving a finger sized crater which held form and took quite some time to dissipate. Once it finally did, the head collapsed, leaving nice sticky lacing. The aroma started off with the typical cocoa, roasted malt, and coffee. As it warmed, the nose exploded, showing off more anise, dark fruit, and tobacco. The taste is definately unique and more complex as it approaches room temperature. Flavor is heavy in dark chocolate and roasted malt, hints of molasses and tar, and the overall presence of a finely made espresso. The mouthfeel is dense and chewy like a stout should be, with a slightly bitter finish. All in all, this is an amazing beer which covers it’s 11% abv very nicely. Can’t wait to have some more! trapez (825), Hilleroed, Denmark

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 22, 2009 0.65 l bottle at Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Pitch black color with small very dark head. Sweet, roasty and strongly coffeish aroma with dark fruits and alcohol. Sweet, very roasty and coffeish flavor with burnt sugar, some vinous notes and burning alcohol. Very thick viscous palate. As often with Mikkeller beers, there is too much burning alcohol and no drinkability. noncaloric (621), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Flavor rich with dark chocolate malts, worty malt profile, enhanced with oatmeal, a spark of booziness. fonefan (11727), VestJylland, Denmark
