| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 18, 2009 Rich, roasty coffee dominates the aroma on this one. Lots of sweet chocolate, followed by the cat shit coffee, with a bit of bitterness in the end. There was an odd fruity aspect to this, perhaps from the coffee bean? Pretty good, but there are plenty of local Coffee Stouts that are as good and better. Certainly wasnt worth my 17 bucks for a 500ml. Gr0ve (1409), Oslo, Norway
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 17, 2009 500 ml bottle. Pitch black. Medium-sized light beige head. Dark caramel aroma with hints of licorice. Dark chocolate. Thick mouthfeel with delicate flavours. Lots of rich choclate and coffee. Wonderfully balanced. I love the texture. It is just fantastic. Very complex. Slightly acidic, but that is likely because of the dark roasted malts. Creamy. There is also a bit of piney hops, but because of the richness it hides in the background. A winner. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2009 Heavily chalky creamed espresso, gritty, earthy, extremely muddy and clouded aroma... the soil/earth character seems to mute any vibrancy of the coffee, and the chalkiness seems to cloud what may be a wonderfully rich dry/bitter chocolate note. Instead the entire nose is muted, numbed, muddled and sort of messy. Nothing seems to change when it hits the mouth - muddy, cloudy, soil-rich, earthy, and altogether messy. Absolutely nothing stands out in this beer, the yeast seems to dampen and neutralize almost every good quality (roast, chocolate, coffee, cream) that the beer suggests it has hidden somewhere. No major flaws at all, but a wholly unremarkable coffee stout. hopscotch (5507), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Black ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Good retention. Cocoa nibs, charcoal, smoke and espresso are the components of the aroma that stand out the most. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. The flavor is luxuriant and very espresso and chocolate-forward with a soothing hug of alcohol. The finish is burnt, boozy, and then dry. Aromas of coffee and dark malt. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor primarily of coffee and really dark toasted malt. It has a light dark toasted malt flavor. It’s sweet, but not obnoxiously so. Really tasty. marcus (1885), Sacramento, California, USA

Tons of roasted malts, just a touch of coffee. Lots of chocolate. Sweetness to it, but an aftertaste of bitterness to it. Dry finish. Good texture. Overall nice beer.
