Smell is lots of caramel and a touch of hops and alcohol. Mostly sweet caramel flavors and not incredibly interesting or complex, I thought. Certainly drinkable, however. grandet (481), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 22, 2009 12.7 oz bottle. Pours a somewhat hazy amber/brown with a quickly fading head. Aroma of oak, candy-covered apples, vanilla and piney/fruity PacNW hops. Flavor starts with a malty toffee caramel base, then a balancing piney/citrusy/fruity hop profile. Next comes notes of woodiness, vanilla, brown sugar and pear/apple. Alcohol content is present but not detracting; warming. Full to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Nice barleywine.
