There is a sweet malt flavor with a slight alcohol burn to the tongue. The flavor is smooth and not too cloying, and there is a fair amount of carbonation. HonkeyBra (1355), Lemont, Illinois, USA

Aroma is sweet malt, a big of spicy hops, whiskey, cognac. Tastes of vanilla, oak, smoke, whiskey, and port. I’ve never had a beer that tasted more like a spirit than beer, but this was interesting. Pours a beautiful caramel, liquid shining like dark amber honey, liquid glass. Sweet nose, some alcohol. Cheese flavors from the hops, somewhat sweet but not intense, still an edge of bitterness, orange and burnt sugar, alcohol burn conferring a cognac-like aspect to the beer. Pretty nice, but I think it could have used another year or two in the cellar. sneagrams3 (1759), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 1, 2008 The Dan Journal #210. Tasted 7/21/08. 12.7oz bottle. The first pour was bright and amber hued. Spiraling brainy head. Citrus hoppy aromas. Big burn in the nostrils. Full bodied with a big alcohol presence. Lemon lime citrus flavors. Decent melding of the flavors. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 29, 2008 Bottle. Pours a murky medium-dark brown with no real head. Aroma of raisin and dark fruits. Flavor of raisins, alcohol, acidity, sweet apple skins. Heavy and sweet, tough to drink. I’m not quite a fan of these aged barleywines. This was better than some, but I still didn’t enjoy it. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA

Aroma is very sweet with cherries, dates, toffee, nuts and alcohol. Flavor is somewhat fruity although the malt does shine through a bit more. Thick, chewy mouthfeel. Finishes long and sweet with a substantial alcohol burn. legion242 (1586), Richardson, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 27, 2008 A little off on appearance as the head quickly faded. Otherwise a very sharp and well done barley-wine. Alcohol was nicely front and center w/o being hot. robforbes (1099), Bremerton, Washington, USA
