Aroma was a blend of malts; fruit, caramel, toffee with some grapefruit. Some sweetness. Flavor was just ok, with a good amount of initial bitterness. Flavor of toasted caramel, fruit, bread and alcohol. A little harsh and rough around the edges. Expected a bit more. Gillard (42), Florida, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 9, 2008 375ml caged,corked,&foil-wrapped bottle. Pours deep brown with amber and orange highlights. It is very cloudy - nearly opaque. The head pours medium in size - light tan in color and consisting of very small bubbles. The aroma is intense. It is thick with both funky, fruity esters (figs, dates) and alcohol. If you move your nose a few inches further from the glass you also get notes of big, sticky, waves of caramel malt. Move your nose closer and you pick up a slight acidity - and a big wallop of ethanol. The flavor starts spicy and prickly from the strong hit of alcohol. Getting past the booziness yields delectably decadent results: lots of malts, sweet and smooth - like drinking a Milky Way bar or a chocolate caramel Riesen. By mid-palate, the bitterness and spiciness of ethanol picks up, along with some fruity esters. The finish is warming and the flavor there is dry and boozy. The mouthfeel is thick but not syrupy - exactly what your tongue expects from a big, <strike>bad</strike>worse beer like this one. The carbonation level is just right - lending a tickly to the tongue and provided a subtle touch of levity. Overall, incredibly strong and warming. Despite the in-your-face alcohol, it is a tasty and complex brew. cgarvieuk (4201), Edinburgh, Scotland

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 5, 2008 Smells fruity, spicey, sweet liquor, and alcohol. Golden amber brown color, dirty and merky looking. Tastes very strong, like cooked sweet caramel liquor, other brown sugary fruit tastes, and spices. Sweet warming finish. Very good and very strong tasting. Juelze (910), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 4, 2008 Pours a dark amber color with a slight hazy. Very little off-white head. Aroma is dark fruit, spice, caramel, and alcohol. Taste is dark fruit, caramel, toffee, light alcohol, and a bit of light chocolate. This is one helluva complex barleywine. Finish is a bit chewy and the alcohol is apparent, but not in your face. This is perfect to pour in a snifter and sit and watch the snow fall. Petrucci914 (590), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 4, 2008 Pours a dark golden color with a medium white head. Aroma is surprising - caramel, hops, pineapple. Mouthfeel is very smooth, maybe even lacks some carbonation. Taste is caramel sweet, toffee, hops, some pineapple, and maybe a bit of cinnamon. A very well-rounded barley-wine. Seems like an alteration of Leviathan.
