Sweet in the taste and powerful, with some spice, malts, and hops. Smell has some fruits and some wine like qualties. NobleSquirrel (1115), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 1, 2008 THis is a big beer, very much of the American ilk, though it’s got little to differentiate itself from the best. There’s phlegm inducing alcohol at the back end with a lingering hoppiness. Decent, but far from great. ajm (945), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 31, 2008 A big giant beer. Impenetrably so. This is a hard beer to drink (in the best way possible). Aroma of granny smith apples; palatte of a snow shovel to the face. Very intense barleywine/American strong flavor. hapjydeuce (772), Del Mar, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Bottled, 2007 vintage. Deep copper color with a bit of haze in the center. Bubbly head capped with a smooth surface that settles into lacing around the meniscus. Pleasing up-front scents of caramelized grapefruit rind and pine wood over the spicy malt foundation. The flavor lacks the overall strength displayed by the aroma; characterized mainly by a big citrus note with nuances of honey, nutmeg and a bit of cherry. Ends slightly spicy with a tart citric kick. Flavors fade rather quickly, but the malty body makes up for it. Nice warming alcohol finish. Maybe this would improve nicely with 2+ years of age. TPaliga (212), Munster, Indiana, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Nice barleywine. A bit hot. Nice and malty. A bit nutty and sweet. Excellent body. Little carbonation. Great Barleywine. I need to pick up a few more to age/ This will be amazing down the line. DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Pours a very dark copper/rust color with a little haze and a medium off-white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is of delicious dark fruits and spices. Initial thought is that I should have aged this for a year or so, but it’s still so good. Great caramel, slightly fruity flavor at first. Very smooth and spicey body with just a little pinch to the somewhat dry alcohol finish. Very warming, complex, and inspiring beer. Bov (5478), Bienne, Switzerland
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 30, 2008 courtesy of fiulijn - hazy bordeaux colour with a fast collapsing foam; strong aroma of prunes, apples and licorice with light notes of alcohol; full-bodied and very sticky; the initial sweetness is met by a powerful bitterness; quite dry and very long bitter fruity finish with a strong alcohol kick - another strong brew from Mikkeller Syd (903), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 29, 2008 Bottle pours a deep, cloudy garnet with a decent head and some lace. The aroma is plum and cherry fruity, caramel, and toffee. The flavor is instant caramel, vanilla, cask, plums, cherries, and somewhat yeasty. The palate is lively yet very smooth Overall, this is a very nice beer. The alcohol is well covered by the flavor. I could drink this.
