| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 25, 2009 Bottle as shown. Pours a very cloudy dark amber with a small frothy white head that quickly diminishes to nothing. The aroma is a strong dark fruit malt with alcohol and licorice. Thin mouthfeel with a watery roasted malt with alcohol very present. Licorice and caramel flavor. Easier to drink as it warms, a very good Barleywine from Mikkeller. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 6, 2009 Bottle from bacchanalia, cambridge, had at home with mario. Alround rating: Big wee toffee malts, a little peppery hop which you can tell has died off a bit, as this bottle is 2yrs old, notes of sherry from the oxidisation fit in nicey and add the complexity. Good fine carbonation. A bit big for me, but a fine drink. gunnfryd (3601), Kristiansand, Norway

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 30, 2009 Bottled 375ml. Appearance: Beautiful hazy ruby brown beer with a small bubbly beige head which leaves some sticky spotted lacework. Aroma: Very impressive. Burnt caramel, liquorice allsorts, mint, wonderful hops, vanilla, lavender and candy floss showing up. Absolutely true to the style. Flavor and palate: Low carbonation. Sweet. Very drinkable. Complex and full bodied. Lavender, burnt caramel, rosemary and a huge amount of great hops which are accompanied by candy floss appear- wow! Subdued alochol presence on the swallow- smooth. A great grapefruit component showing up- the hop profile is flawless and really adds to my appreciation of this beer. Minty and a tad salty. Rather hop accentuated. Slight reminiscence of liquorice allsorts. Perfect balance. Long dry hoppy finish with lingering hints of licorice, hop resin, candied fruits, plum and a huge amount of lavender. Overall impression: An impressive barley wine. Hop accentuated, makes me think of Three Floyds Behemoth. A bit more malty though and darker in appearance. A very nice interpretation of the style. Top notch! Svesse (2683), Hässelby, Sweden

Malty, fruity nose with dried apricots, red berries, caramel, a touch of rubber, orange peel and citrussy hops. Slightly vinous. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, black-currant, caramel, orange peel and lots of citrussy hops in a vinous, warming finish. Bitterness grows with every sip. More than medium body, rather sweet. Lots of taste and a lot of different impressions. Possibly lacking some in balance, but a nice and warming beer. BeerChaser0078 (366), Melbourne, Australia
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 27, 2009 Bottle. Now that’s a barley wine. Pours dark copper/brown with a little beige head that doesn’t last long. On the nose toffee, brown sugar, sweet malt, spices and alcohol are the dominant features. Flavour-wise it’s much the same but the spiciness seems to come out more as it warms whereas the sweetness tones down. Fairly thick and sticky on the palate, but also very more-ish, this is an ideal winter-time, after dinner drink.
