glennmastrange (805), hobe sound, Florida, USA Nov 6, 2009 Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of toasted, molasses and dark bread, moderate resin, leather and earth for thehops and yeast, with background notes of prune, tar, vanilla and dark rum. Head is small, creamy with some larger bubbles, light brown, with fair lacing and good thick legs, and is almost fully diminishing. Color is black. Flavor starts heavily sweet and finishes moderately sweet and lightly bitter Palate is full, syrupy and silky and has an almost flat carbonation. A lively and very well crafted Imperial Stout, but a little too over the top on the sweetness for me. arminjewell (100), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 5, 2009 Poured oily, thick black with a dark tan head. Extremely thick mouthfeel perfect for the style, lots of cloying sweetness to go along with the burnt and coffee tastes with no alcohol taste. Excellent! Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Oct 27, 2009 12.7 oz bottle served in a snifter on 10/27/09 (Courtesy of ygtbsm94)-Pours a pitch black with a very small ring for a head. Aroma of soy sauce, molasses, coffee, and roasted malt. Taste of alcohol, coffee, roasted malt, and bitterness. This is fairly light in body for an Imp stout and a bit sweet. This is still very tasty but a bit off balance. Worth a try but comes in a green bottle. austone (995), Turku; Pori, Finland Oct 27, 2009 37,5cl. BBE 14/08/11, had this for a year. Pitch black, tiny coarse and disappearing tanned head. Nose is soy sauce, ammonium salmiak, little booze, huge amount of soy. Flavor is molasses, licorice, burned malts, coffee beans and soy sauce, a bit mentholey Super salmiakki finish. Medium bodied, low carbonation, surprisingly light palate. At least this bottle was a lot less in balance than the Black. Should really try again. Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Oct 23, 2009 fantastic huge mouthfull of caramel goodnes followed by a strong aftertaste of burnt, roasted coffee. This is a very focused stout- not very complex, but straight to the point. It’s strong, but would certainly improve with age. The ass end of the bottle is cloyingly sweet. Bottle from Knightly Spirits, Orlando. 0o9i (326), Reno, Nevada, USA Oct 19, 2009 Bottle. Dark brown (black in the glass), completely opaque, very few splashes of lace left by a lasting brown ring of creamy foam. Malty aroma of chocolate, coffee, molasses, boozy notes. Fairly full bodied with virtually no carbonation, but not particularly wet or sticky and even pleasant. Very sweet with plenty of chocolate as well as coffee, cherries, molasses, dark fruits. The finish is lightly roasty with a touch of pine woodiness and lots of coffee. A bit boozy on the finish. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Oct 16, 2009 Bottle from Bierkoning. Dark black with razor thin brown head. Sweet and dark chocolate nose. Taste of chocolate, sugar and then more dark chocolate. Notes of coffee. Just a beautiful thing. Really enjoying it. Nice tart choco finish. A great style and a great brewer. Seems clear to me. l1br4r14n (274), Washington, Washington DC, USA Oct 15, 2009 Pours black with a thin light brown head. Phenomenal chocolate and coffee aroma! Yum! Flavor is really sweet coffee - like you accidentally poured twice as much sugar into your cup as you meant to, some chocolate and straight up sugar. If this could be compared to white wine, it would be the Gewürztraminer of stouts. Wonderful at first, but I began to be overwhelmed by the sweetness. Alcohol isn’t noticeable.
