Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Black with small tan head that disappears. Black Russian with chocolate aroma. Taste reminds me of a bittersweet Spanish coffee overpowered by alcohol.

12 oz bottle from mreusch, thank you Matt! I feel bad even rating this already since I’ve not even sent yours in return yet, but thank you! Black hole... No shit! I poured about 4 oz. into a Corsendonk Christmas Ale glass, and there is no light that passes through this, even held up in front of a light bulb! Black with a short lived, thin, mocha tan head! Alcohol, light coffee, brown sugar sweetness and malt, fresh crushed malt, light caramel and dark fruit, and an herbal hop aroma that I can’t quite place between all the other aromas; All in the nose at first. A fruity chocolate follows, but I can’t distinguish the fruitiness. A moderate toffee as it warms... Also some spicy yeast character. And that’s just the nose! Flavor is sweet up front, chocolatey, lightly coffee, lightly tart from dark grains mid palate. Caramel, toasty malt, fig fruit, dark molasses slightly burnt/acrid flavor as it warms, but not strong. Actually adds to the complexity of the flavor. Toffee and toasty malt, but an odd sweet/tart balance throughout from the grains. Finish is lighlty coffee and toasty malt flavored. Very slight touch of smoke, hop flavor and other spice in the aftertaste. medium body, very light carbonation and well hidden alcohol, but the mouth dries out in the finish. I like it, but I’m not enamored with it! It’s well made technically, but I’m not sure I like the odd sweet/tart balance that dominates the flavor from up front almost to the finish. It’s a good sipper, but I’m not sure I’d want more than 1 of these in a night, and not just because of the alcohol.

2007 bottle @ BA Järntorget. Pours pitch black with no head. Amazing aroma of complex malts (brown, roasted, toasted, bread and biscuits), hops (Simcoe?), black pepper, rose pepper, cardamom, tutti frrutti candy. Initially a sour taste that transforms into salt licorice. Medium to thin body, but balanced by flavorful malts.

Black beer with a dark brown head that slowly dissappears. Complex sweetish aroma: mokka, coffee, chocolate, cherry licor (mon cherry like), dark fruits, ... Mokka taste, tintling on the tongue, some bitterness at the end coming from the burned malts. The alcohol is very well hidden.

Brewed in Denmark........ Pours black in color with reddish hues and a thin beige head. Aroma of molasses, dark malts, alcohol and coffee. The taste has a bitter sweet chocolate flavor with roasted malts, vanilla and a medium alcohol burn. The mouthfeel is medium in body with a dry, but pleasant alcohol finish. This beer was in celebration of the great comeback in silly philly today. :)

Bottle from pimpp, thank you so much. Pours black with a smallish tan head that quickly fell away to a thin ring. Aroma is huge coffee, chocolate, black malt and alcohol. Flavor is coffee, dark chocolate, alcohol, bittersweet chocolaty finish with maybe a touch of black licorice at the very end. This is a very nice beer, I really enjoyed this one.

pours a jet black with a small brown head that goes away quickly, and some lacing. smell is of cocoa, espresso, has an alcohol burn on the nose, and roasted malt. taste is thick, yet creamy, very strong (maybe too strong), dark chocolate, roasted nuts, licorice, alcohol is present in the back, and slight sour malt, ends dry and very bitter.
