Commercial Description:
Finally……! Black Hole is what Mikkeller is all about. Daring, vulgar and extreme. From the very beginning Mikkellers goal has been to push the limit and with this warming, intense imperial stout, a new chapter in the Danish beer history has been written. The high bitterness from the hops and the sweetness from the malt and alcohol, creates a good balance which makes Black Hole an explosion of nuances, but also leaves a feeling of a perfect and complex beer – in the heavyweight category.

Well the first time I tried this a month ago I was taking pulls straight from the bottle in the back of a truck driving down the i-5 after a long night of drinking at pizza port (with my friend MakeitaBanquet) and I thought it was great then but now that I have tried it in a proper setting I really think it is a Great stout. Delicious flavour comes through and last from beginning to the end. Maybe a bit to sweet to drink the whole bottle but a glass of this is just perfect.

Bottle, thanks to akevitt for sharing. Pours a nearly opaque black body with red hues and brown foam head. Aroma of sweet burnt malts and tar with hints of hops and coffee. Slight alcohol burn on the aroma. Flavor is initially sweet malts and sugar, then the burnt malts and tobacco/smoke take over near the finish. There is also a light hop and coffee flavor throughout the palate. Medium bodied with a smooth, silky mouthfeel. Smoky, burnt malt finish with a lingering, bitter aftertaste. This one seems to be similar to Mikkelller Black, although this tends to emphasize the sweet malts more, and is a little less complex.

12.7 oz. bottle. 2007. Impenetrable black body with a short, frothy, dark brown head. Malty aroma of roasted grain and sweet molasses. Notes of coffee, vanilla, dough, alcohol and oxidation. The flavor is moderately sweet and moderately bitter. It finishes heavily bitter atop moderate sweetness. Tastes of bitter coffee with a hint of licorice and lots of alcohol. Full body with a creamy texture. Soft carbonation. Very good, but not great.

12.7oz bottle - traded for in November 2007: Coal black pour with a thin beige head. Intense aroma of vanilla bean, sweet fudge, brownie, bourbony plums. A slight oxidized note rides on top - adding to the mix actually. Thick, chewy body. Wow - the high ABV hits the stomach before anything else. Tongue numbing in fact. A nice layer of bitter coffee, sweet fudge and vanilla bean lays beneath in a nice balance. Hmm, interesting and heavy hitting but not as complex as I would have expected. Still, very good.

Bottle shared by mspindler. Dark chocolate aroma, and a dark brown color. A very rich chocolate flavor, a bit overpowering. Nice dry finish.

Had this aged for a half a year and this kicked the shit out of dark horizon’s second edition pretty easily. Pitch black stuff, small mocha head. Strong coffee aroma hits my nose when you are pouring it, I also got some vanilla in the process. Huge beer, the espresso like aroma is gigantic. Taste is suprisingly soft, this is a coffee drinkers heaven. This is an extreme beer, molasses, alcohol, malt, chocolate, hops, dark fruits, ash ja alcohol. So much taste in a mouthfull that it is almost ridiculous. Brilliant stuff.

Bottle shared with friends at Hophead22s place. Pours pitch black with a thin brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and an alcoholic twinge. Big, sweet chocolatey flavor with coffee and decent bitterness. Really got better as it warmed. Somewhat chalky and pretty hot, too. Palate is thick and syrupy but it finishes pretty dry. Good and I wish I had a couple more bottles to hold on to for a while.

Bottled. Opened right outa fridge which led to aromas of alchohol and bitter dark malt. The first way too cold sip was also overpowred by alchohol but also had flavors of dark chocolate, green hops, and more alchy. when i Let it warm to its best temp it had aromas of rich esspresso, dark bakers chocolate, more coffee and hops. The taste was much more even and was not overpowrd by the alchohol or th hop bitterness. Taste was very rich and full and was llike a 13.1% beer should be.
