l1br4r14n (274), Washington, Washington DC, USA Oct 15, 2009 Pours black with a thin light brown head. Phenomenal chocolate and coffee aroma! Yum! Flavor is really sweet coffee - like you accidentally poured twice as much sugar into your cup as you meant to, some chocolate and straight up sugar. If this could be compared to white wine, it would be the Gewürztraminer of stouts. Wonderful at first, but I began to be overwhelmed by the sweetness. Alcohol isn’t noticeable. KnN (712), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Oct 15, 2009 Pours a beautiful rich black/brown color with a tannish head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, caramel, more chocolate, a little nutty. This beer smelled fantastic. Flavor was initially very pleasant with a lot of the same qualities as the aroma, but quickly became a little syrupy and overly sweet. Soon the sweetness dominated and this beer started tasting a bit like chocolate syrup. Not bad, just a little sweet. Didn’t even notice the alcohol in the flavor though. odgaard (249), Skyum, Thisted, Denmark Oct 9, 2009 Black as the night with allmost no head. Very strong aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, tar and also some hops. Taste: pretty sweet, chocolate and syrup is dominating, but t is balanced with a high bitterness. But it seem a little unbalanced to the sweet side. Long warming alcohol aftertase, but othervice the alcohol is pretty well hidden. Low carbonation. dimenhetfield (157), , Florida, USA Oct 9, 2009 Outstanding! It’s a big beer, but doesn’t carry the bite of a big beer. Is sort of on the sweet side, but still has a little of that bitter finish to it. A very great imperial stout. rederic (1787), montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 7, 2009 375ml bottle, black dark color, with a tan-colored head, good roasted, black, chocolate malt nose, with some spicy liquorice, anise accents with some coffee, molasses, dark dried fruit notes of burnt raisns, plums, dates and a floral hop coniferous, pineniddle, resinous, grassy aroma follows through on a full-bodied palate with a yeasty, roasty, black, chocolate malt, flowery hop leafy, minty character, with some liquorice, molasses, brown sugar sweetness, black coffee flavors, and some coniferous, cedary, piney notes, leading towards a warming, liquorice, big roasty bitterness finish. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Oct 5, 2009 Pours a headless black with a fantastic butter-tart aroma - burnt raisin and brown sugar. Tastes quite astringent, acidic Arabica, ash & burnt. Body is thin and pinched, lightly effervescent. Lovely lingering espresso aftertaste - more tart Arabica. Very tasty but wish there were a tad more body & head. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA Oct 4, 2009 Poured a syrupy black.
Nose is of molasses, raisins, smoked peat, and sugar.
Taste was very disappointing. WAY too sweet, it was thick and syrupy and just way too sweet. lacked most positive distinguishing characteristics of the style. I cant help but think its incredibly high rating is because its distribution reaches areas that good Imperial stouts dont. hobbersr (393), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Oct 4, 2009 Thanks to savvy1982 for the share! Pours a very dark brown in colour. The head is tan in colour, fairly small, but retains and laces very well in my snifter. The aroma has a tun of coffee, with milk chocolate, plums, soy sauce, and licorice. The taste is an excellent balance of bitter and sweet. There is a tun of flavor. Roasty malt and loads of residual sugar. The hops are there and round out the flavor. Excellent.
