probstk (1005), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Jul 15, 2008 375 ml bottle shared with Lubiere, served cool in a goblet.
App.: Deep cola brown with ruby hints, tiny light mocha head.
Aroma: An assault on the nostrils! Big black pepper, green resinous hops, some black coffee and dark chocolate, smokey.
Palate: Medium-full body and sparse carbonation.
Flav.: Very aggressive green peppercorns, huge amounts of resinous hops, some sweet malts but they are struggling; very spicy, quite bitter, biting and young; oily and mouth-coating..
ENORMOUS and needs to age I think. Doggythedog (1541), Split, Croatia Jul 15, 2008 Bottle, RBESG08 grand tasting. Almost black brown body. Nose... hmm... elder? Very pleasant. Dark malts. Nice heavy malty taste, elder again, alcohol, big roasty bitterness. Way better than the Black, but it just isn’t my style. oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Jul 12, 2008 Snifter. Pours raven black with tan frothy head. Nose is primarily creamy espresso with roasted malt, bitter chocolate, and a prevailing alcohol note. Flavor is lots of coffee with heavily roasted malt and sweet dark fruit. Sweet but alcoholic, hops come out in the finish. Palate is thick and viscous... tingling, warming, and agressive. Impressive beer in its own right, but a definite unique winner for its style. Collint (451), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Jul 11, 2008 Bottle from lighthouse beer and wine. Pours a solid black with a medium brown head. aroma is chocolate with complexity. Flavor is sweet like fruit at first then chocolate with endings filled with coffe and a bitter hop bite. This is one of my favorite Impy stouts TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Jul 11, 2008 Bottled: Thanks CollinT for bring this awesome beer back to Sylva! Pours oil blad with tan lacing. Smells of roasted coffee malts. Tastes like black coffee with hints of alcohol and malts. Amazing! craftycarl21 (510), South Hero, Vermont, USA Jul 11, 2008 pours motor oil black with smallish head for an impy. aroma- espresso reigns supreme with chocolate, alcohol, and dark fruit added. Flavor isn’t overly complex but very aggressive, alcohol bite is a pugnacious shot that stings the gums. Excellent imp. stout because it has unique focus and the alcohol adds a whole other dimension. Incredible stuff. Jblauvs (530), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 11, 2008 black as night. Espresso nose that overpowers. very bitter chocolate, sliggght alcohol. heavy alcohol on the taste, aggressive, in your face beer. raisins. The mouthfeel is silky and delicious. a heavy hitter, bold and unique ElGaucho56 (386), USA Jul 9, 2008 Pours obsidian black with almost zero head, what is there is a dark beige. Nice aroma , deep fruity berries, strong complex coffee character, some oily hop notes. Palate is sticky and strong, with an almost overwhelming burnt toast character along with treacle sweetness, scotch warmth , and a vanilla tinge to the herbally bitter finish. Don’t know, this one feels a little out of balance for me. Certainly a monstrosity though.
